And risks losing 2 first round picks.

As i said, I wouldnt get too hung up on the two first rounders. Teams can and have negotiated this price down before.

It will be real interesting if someone does make an offer. As much as I am a fan of KC, 2 first round picks gives you pause.

Unless one of those is a franchise QB, those aren't worth it.
So, his agent can't view all offers? Only those offers that would allow skins to match or get the 2 first rounders? That was what I was wanted to know.

The agent can pass along any "offers" they get from teams. But the only legit ones are those where Kirk and the team have signed. Otherwise, Bruce and Eric Schaefer would laugh that stuff off.

I'm wondering if Scot (who has a good relationship with Cuz' agent) and co. feels it's important to let Cuz' agent field all these offers so the negotiations can be more realistically discussed.

We all know the QB market is over inflated in $ because of limited supply.

If the offers aren't near what Cuz is asking for, it would help the negotiating. Then again, given some QB desperate teams, maybe not.

That might be the case. But given the price for prying Cuz loose, there might not be any takers. If there are any, I think it'd be highly unlikely to see any legit offers thrown his way.

Having said that, Kirk can indirectly gauge his market value by comparing offers that might be floated to Sam Bradford. If Sammy hits the FA market and starts getting offers (or he gets a long term deal from the Eagles), Cuz can argue he deserves more than what Bradford is getting. Thus, in a sense, Bradford can very well do the bargaining for Cuz.

Yeah, I can see Cuz' using any Bradford deal if it's strong to his advantage as a comparable.

Ryan Fitzpatrick may be another comp he can use. Like Cuz, he had a pretty darn good contract year. The Jets, however, are using their franchise tag on Mo Wilkerson. They're already cap-strapped and I wonder if other teams like the Rams will give Fitz the payday he wants.

And draft WHO??

2 first round draft picks and a fill in QB does NOT beat paying Kirk and possibly getting off the QB every other week ride.

How in the hell did Rappoport get the transition tag story so wrong?

So who plays QB for us? And please don't point to someone in the draft.

Yep. Don't see any good replacements in free agency so it would have to be from the draft. Assuming that you are not going to get one of the top picks in this draft (no team with high first rounders is going to give up 2 1st rounders & pay Cousins an outrageous salary) this would involve a few more years of rebuilding.

This team is finally at the pt where they have a chance to build a consistent winner & possible contend - if not this season then the following one. You want to throw that out the window & start again?

I did hear that 1 'decision maker' was in favor of the transition tag. Prepare for csi ;)

Who even cares anymore? These guys make up or exaggerate so much stuff that it is easier just to write off a lot of their reports especially since basically most reporters/bloggers no longer have any integrity.

Well, Cousins sucks up almost $20M of cap room for next season but what disturbs me most is, his comments after remain, "I want to be where I'm wanted, so we'll see next year". Reading between the lines this may mean he plays out this contract without negotiating a long term deal. He is the highest paid QB going into this season which is dysfunctional imo. Making more than Brady, Bree's, Rodgers, lol... What has this league came too?

I would think it would be in his best interest now to negotiate a long term deal before kick off of the 2016-17 season because that will be guaranteed long term stability. If he plays poorly or mediocre this season, big money is out the window for Cousins who hasn't won a playoff game, hasn't beaten a team with a winning record as a starter and hasn't proven he is in the ELITE class of QB's, all of whom he makes more money than.

Or look at it realistically from his point of view.

Worst case, he plays on the tag and we finish 6-10 and the Skins dont keep him after the season.

He then signs as a backup some where next year for $5 million. He just made $25 million for two years.

Best case, he plays well enough the Skins are in the same boat next year, only now it costs $25 million to tag him. In which case he stands to make $45 million over two years.

I think any long term deal for Kirk has to carry around $30 million plus in guaranteed money because of the fact that he will make minimum $21 million over the next two years if he simply plays on the tag. And upwards of $28 million if he does well playing on the tag.

Agreed and the hope is he plays extremely well this year and warrants the new long term deal in WASH that takes care of his family for the next 5-6 years.

If you clear $10 million after taxes, paying agents etc and you CANT take care of your family going forward....you are a jackass any way. :D

Just saying....

On another note, I still can't believe some people are berating the Redskins for refusing to use the transition -- as opposed to the franchise -- tag on Cousins. According to them, it would've forced the Redskins to confront Cuz's true market value and driven Cuz to a long-term deal. But what these people (e.g. Chris Russell of 106.7) don't get is that by paying a bit more for the franchise tag, you buy yourself virtual security for retaining Cuz this year and perhaps beyond. If you get too cute, you risk having someone like the Rams, who've got all kinds of cap space, in front-loading a contract and stealing Cuz away.
