yeah but before that there was a long string of finishing in the top.
Their success is directly related to good QB performance. They've had a couple of 3-4 year starters and a bad/average year or two in between. History suggests this might not be a great year for MSU because they are so reliant on turning 3 star recruits into NFL players.

There's not many teams that can have much success without good QB performances.

True, but MSU seems to have rough break-in periods with new starters or finding that new starter when a guy like Cook leaves.

But we are using top 25 classes rather than 45th ranked classes.

But QB recruiting hasn't changed a whole lot. Dantonio developed Cousins and pretty much since then MSU has had four star QB's on their roster. You had Maxwell, Boisture, Terry, Lewerke and now DeWeaver.

Are you trying to say Michigan wasn't successful with the string of gems we had at QB? Yikes. I will be so happy if Harbaugh turns one of his recruits into a top pocket passer. I like his options right now with O'Korn, Peters and McCaffrey (if he stays true to his commitment)

I'm tired of watching running backs at QB for UM.

MSU seemed to fare alright last year with a backup QB on the road against OSU.
I'm sure they may have a slight let down, but Dantonio has proven he knows the type of players that will succeed in his system and he knows how to develop talent.
The years of 7-5, 6-6, 5-7 are over, I think, for MSU

We'll see. It's not like 17 points is great. They won, but it wasn't an offensive show. As mentioned many times around here, MSU had a lot of very close games last year, some against really bad teams, and the thing that usually brought them out of it with a win was Cook.

You can say the same about every team though. Michigan will have a new QB too. We had games where Ruddock saved us, especially at the end of the year.

It's not just about breaking in a new QB, Dantonio has a history, while at MSU, of not doing great at breaking one in.

Except for Cook who went 13-1 his first year starting.

What could be the difference this year with Ohio St is the drive, something they didn't have last year, which was disappointing. They will have a young team but they have a leader in Barrett that could carry them through the rough stretches. The talent is there but the experience is not.

I guess, after Dantonio flip-flopped between him and Maxwell the year before and only won what, 7 games? That's what I'm talking about.

By flip flop you mean Cook threw six passes before the second half of the bowl game. I guess Harbaugh flip flopped between Ruddock and Speight last year, right?

Which year did Dantonio play two guys and then ended up turning the loser into a WR? Point is, 2012 illustrates bad player decisions by Dantonio.

You are going back to 2009. Yes going with an elite 11 quarterback who had three years in the program as the starter rather than going with a redshirt freshman is a mistake no other coach would make.

Both of us know fully well that the "elite 11" status is bullshit. Dantonio should get on our level.

Exhibit #1, the rusty cows. They haven't had a QB since Colt.
