Don't shoot the messenger.

So is it just a negotiating tactic or a sign of Scott's plans?

Assuming it's far too early for this to be any real indication of whatll happen but worth noting.

Deadlines spur actions. Seems like a posturing position. Cuz' agent is a known hard baller.

Yep, pushing deadlines gets things happened. Remember how Dez Bryant finally agreed to his deal?

Today is the first day that the Redskins could use the franchise tag on Kirk Cousins

Excerpt

Tuesday, Feb. 16 marks the first day that NFL teams are allowed to use the franchise tag on their highest-priority impending free agent.

The Washington Redskins could elect to use the franchise tag to avoid losing quarterback Kirk Cousins to another team, however, it’s not likely that they would exercise such a move on Tuesday. The window of opportunity for the franchise player tag runs from today to Tuesday, March 1.

The Redskins would prefer to hammer out a long-term deal with Cousins rather than have to use the franchise tag, which is a one-year deal that will call for him to earn around $20 million, all of which will count against the salary cap. However, if the two sides fail to come to an agreement by March 1, the team could use the tag on Cousins that day.

One would think Cousins would be looking for a $20 million dollar deal, no?

IMO it's too early to really think anything of this... Happens all the time

Agreed.

Agent asking for the moon, skins not willing to go there. Best quote about the situation I saw. Lot of time yet. A deal will get done.

Yep. Even if a player like Cousins was agreeable to a deal or close his agent would almost always play hardball & take this type of stance. Nothing to get overly concerned over.

it's the job of an agent to ask for the moon. It's the job of the GM and ownership to not cave into it and make the agent and the player work for their money... Every sport does it. Unless your agent is Scott Boras (for some reason teams are scared sh*tless of him)

Hows that song go? "How do you solve a problem like kirk cousins"... Not sure... Skins rather not chise him for cap reasons but dont want to over pay him too. Quite the conumdrum. The break off in talks mean one thing.

KC should not ask for 20 mil per season. 16-18 per season is very fair. Maybe SM is trying to low ball him at 13 or 14. We will never get the full story.

Either put the franchise tag on him or go with RG III.

They need to slap the non exclusive franchise tag on him that way we still get 2 first rounders out of him if worst comes to worse

I'm sorry... I thought that would be a good solution. :noidea:

Which part... 70% of players that play on the tag end up elsewhere the following year.

Keeping RG3... just NO... NO...NO

IF they arent going to sign Kirk long term, they just need to let him go else where.

Griffin just needs to go period.

If they both go the Skins won't have a decent QB.

If they keep Griffin we still wouldnt have a decent QB.

As far as Kirk goes, I think he is good. Im just not a fan of the one year rental option because in the end it usually doesnt work out. If we are going to be looking for a QB any way, I would rather just let McCoy start and draft some one to groom.
