5 Big-Name Free Agents the Redskins Should Target in 2016

well this is the first free agency list

the 2 guys i would look at are witherspoon at LB and weddle at safety if you are looking for a few longer term solutions

hilodi is a stop gap

forte would also be a stop gap but with jones it could work

aldon smith is a huge character issue

Sean Witherspoon- I would kick the tires on him but wouldn't pay too much for him. He isn't a starter in Arizona and shouldn't be paid much here. Two or three years for 2 to 2.5 million per year.

Aldon Smith- this is one where I would definitely kick the tires. I really don't know what I would offer but I would look. I would not offer much in guarantees, if any at all.

Matt Forte- pass...age and money on that position

Eric Weddle and Haloti Ngata...AGE

That was a really screwed up article, again the old way of doing business. Weatherspoon would be the only one I would consider. They have to figure out the NT spot, Knighton did not give them enough to justify a big deal, but overpaying for what a guy did 2 teams ago is again the same mistake.

Miller yes but with his age he should get big money is FA. He might be too expensive. Wisnewski, yes. I don't know why they didn't look at him last year. Kearse, no. Weddle is he is cheap. Trevanthan, could get decent money b/c of his age.

Pass on Weatherspoon and Ngata for sure. Ngata was done before he left Baltimore. Weddle if we were close. Still think we are a couple of Scot off-seasons away. Forte is a beast but also about to be 30. Pass on Smith. I like our Smith's upside better.

The only two on those lists worth considering are Weatherspoon and Trevathan. The others simply aren't what Scotty usually likes because they'd be too old and/or not worth the squeeze. The position group that we really need to fortify is d-line. With Hatcher gone and questions on Pot Roast, I'm not sure how we will fill out the d-line either in FA or the draft. We will need both and if we're looking at a 3-4 DT in FA, the only guy that makes sense right now in FA is Muhammad Wilkerson. Signing him will face a few hurdles (e.g., if the Jets franchise him, all bets are off), but if we can sign him to a deal that won't look a Haynesworth contract, he's only 26 and is a great fit as a 3-4 DT. Of course, Scotty may have already made the decision that he'll be too pricey and moved on from him as an option at DT.

Miller- depends 100% on the price. I think he will get more than he deserves and there will be better options. The FA RB I want is CJ Anderson, depending on price.

Kearse- I am not a fan but wouldn't be surprised to see him get a look here.

Wisniewski- I mentioned this already. We should definitely look and at the right price, absolutely.

Weddle- nope

Trevathon- another one I mentioned. I would definitely look. He knows he is a starter if he comes here.

Maybe Trevathon. Miller if hes cheap but I bet he'll get paid more than I want him at. The rest are nos for me. I could probably be talked into Wilkerson though.

How good is Wiz? He won rookie honors in 2011, but then wasn't re-signed by the Raiders. The Jags don't seem to be pursuing him either. Things that make you go hmmmmm . . .

He has been up and down for sure. He has 15 to 20 pounds on Lich though and he's 26. The fact that the Jags may be willing to let him go makes me think his market value is low and we might be able to steal him.

I also would have no problem grabbing a center in the 2nd. Gotta do something here.

For me Wilkerson or Norman would be lovely, but I think both of those guys re-sign. I'd more than happy to settle for guys like Miller, who will probably cost more than we think, Osemele, and Trevathan.

Potential Redskin Free Agent Targets

this is the best list yet i think

jones at center could be a good pick up 6-3 316 lbs and 26

holmes at wr 6-4 210 lbs could be of use in the red zone if you send roberts packing

there are a couple of ILBS who fit the age profile there

hannah at TE 6-4 260 who can clock and catch would be worth a good look

Ben Jones and Wisniewski both have to be looked at. I don't see either garnering huge contracts and both have proven to be capable starters. Maybe Callahan can improve either.

Gradkowski- I would be hesitant on. You can bring him to camp but there is a reason he has bounced and inactive on poor teams.

Kearse- still passing. He doesn't really bring anything to the team and will probably get 7-8 mil per season.

Robertson- I put him in the Compton, Foster area. He has put up stats but on poor defenses. I would have to look at price and film honestly...he is a Brown.

Andre Holmes- kick the tires

Guoin over Thomas just to,keep him off KCs back next season in the playoffs

Weddle and Berry- too old and too expensive

Marshall and Trevathon- both are very good and I imagine one will get away from Denver. I would take either.

Freeman- old

Janoris Jenkins- kick the tires but wouldn't overpay

James Hanna- worth talking to

Nate Ebner- worth a chat

How about the Eagles' Vinny Curry and/or Cedric Thornton at DE? Both are 27.
cedric thorton , yes he isn 6-4 309 lbs so he fits in better as a 3-4 de but curry would have to be moved to OLB so that might not be so good unless gallette walks

Holmes. I don't want to spend big or draft a wr early, because I think Crowder has a real chance to be our slot guy for the next 10 years. Not quite Santana. Moss was special at Miami and was a true #1 for a long time. I do think he could develop into a Laveranues Coles type.

It also hopefully keeps Jackson and Garçon on the roster. It doesn't have to be Holmes but someone of that size and in that price range.
