So Smith isn't legit?

He would need to gain at least 20 pounds of muscle. You don't think that would cost him quickness? You do understand there is a difference between a DE in a 3-4 and a 4-3.

He is legit but his forte is not OLB gain 10 pounds of muscle get to 280 pounds and have him man Hatchers spot because he should be gone and sign Galette back you have yourself a pretty damn legit pass rush

OK...you really don't see the difference in a DE for a 3-4 and a 4-3. Hatcher weighs nearly 300 pounds. Preston Smith fits very well as an OLB in a 3-4 defense. He is a phenomenal athlete. Compare his size to that of the best OLBs in the game. He is right on par with Hali, Houston, and is actually smaller than Peppers. If we switch to a 4-3 defense, then he can move to end because in a 4-3 the DEs can be 270...they need to be nearly 300 in a 4-3.

Yep...they exaggerate some people's weights but not others. Think about that for a moment. Looks can be deceiving.

Jason Hatcher combine...6'6" and 284...he was a DT in college...bigger dude
Preston Smith combine...6'5" and 271...he was a 4-3 DE which is a 3-4OLB...more athletic

Please do research on your own.

Guess where Smith will be playing on the damn line because Galette will be the starting OLB

I usuall side with gk here but not this time. I'm thinking you have not seen much tape on Gilette to have this opinion. He possesses a quickness and explosion unlike anyone on this team including Ryan Kerrigan. Smith played great but he seldom blew away guys around the edge unless it's Jason Peters mailing it in on the last game. His game appears to be strength and I personally think playing DE on passing downs next to Gilette would be very effective. If you look at your tale of the tape Smith is only 13 Lbs lighter than Hatcher. There are planty of 23 year olds who can add 10-14 pounds. And there are plenty of good 270 pound pass rushing DEs.

That was 13 pounds coming out of college. They are 28 pounds different now.

I don't see why you guys want to change a rookie that rushed the passer better than all other rookies this season. That blows my mind. How about we allow the rookie to grow and dominate? How about we allow our third year OLB grow instead of going out and renting a guy who will sign for one year? I say we will sign him for one year because he won't get big money in FA. Galette is coming off a major injury and was on a one year contract because he likes to hit women.

we run the 4-3 scheme in a lot of sets so getting smith , kerrigan murphy and gallet shouldnt be an issue

So who plays what position during the sets? Shouldn't we try to get our best players on the field as often as possible?

No reason for anyone to get all worked up about this. SM is making the decisions - not us. I have faith that they will make the rt moves.

yes and we are lucky guys like murphy and smith are versatile

now here is an idea for one set murphy de smith DT because he did that at miss. gallette at olb kerrigan at OLB or DE baker at DT with perhaps a legit rookie at de with culliver breeland , dunbar at CB with jarret at safety with hall . then you have comption / mason and a draft pick at ILB in some passing situations

our base you run kerrigan and smith/gallette at olb draft pick and compton / mason as the backers

roast at NT baker at DE draft pick at de and the same above secondary

Guys.... we dont HAVE to play Madden wonder roster any more because we actually have a GM that is I dont know... a personnel guy. I think we are all forgetting..

IN SCOT WE TRUST!!!

If Galette is back, he will be the starter. Murphy and Smith become backup/rotational guys who can still play and we have I dont knoe.. DEPTH at OLB. Something we havent had in like fuckin' FOREVER!!

Yes Im stressing some words so they sink in. In fact I hope we draft another pass rushing OLB, because we NEED to be able to get to the QB. We also need to get 1 or 2 ILBs if not more. We are going to have some choices to make, but I think at OLB and actually at CB we have some good young options that will develop. If guys like Culliver and Hall can stay healthy, then that really just leaves the D-line in need of a dominant play maker.

2015 NFL Draft Analysis - Preston Smith

If the scouting reports above on Smith is accurate. Putting Smith in an interior DL position, including NT, is something he can handle. I like the part about him having the body type and skill-set to be moved different positions on the line. Put PS's hand in the dirt and have RK and Galette at OLB.

If Galette comes as advertised, Smith builds upon what turned out to be a damn good rookie year pass rush-wise, and RK is RK. The Skins might finally have the pieces to be a legit pass rushing team. Something they really haven't been since the Dexter/Mann days.

Absolutely, that is the reason to keep all 4 guys. There are 3rd packages for them. Kerrigan also puts his hand in the dirt from time to time. I saw him in a 3 point stance several times last weekend.

Gillette has a Redskins tatoo on his bicept. I wonder if that is legally binding.

Good stuff. I certainly don't think someone like Fat Al has anything like this. More likely - he has something like a bottle of Jack Daniels tattooed on his arm.
