1) I had us going 6-10 with us looking better but not quite ready to compete . well we have taken a step faster then i thought and withn some smart FA moves and another productive draft we could be a perennial contendere
2) coach Gruden took a lot of crap but he made some GREAT calls this year , lets take a look
A) he inserted KC into the starting line up amidst huge second guessing in just about every corner from the RG3 ball washers to every so called pundit in the free world
B ) he inserted morgan moses in at RT and got his best 5 o/lineman on the field and milked the horrible Ribeye into a playoff birth
C) he shifted dunbar from wr to CB and got a productive CB out of it
D) he took a good draft and got production out of it . Preston smith exceeded expectations , crowder came up big , jarret came up big
E) mid season free agent signings were brought up to speed quickly , blackman , foster PT , alex smith all have played good roles
F) nursing that TE situation was outstanding

3) SM had an outstanding draft (so far ) with 5 picks making key contributions , his in seasonn free agent signings have been huge hits . finding hoffman ended a decade search for a kicker . you can quibble about the carrier or goldston as far as trades go but when carrier went down we found out quickly just what he did for us
4) allen and snyder have stayed out of football operations (mostly ) and the organization appears to have a direction and a plan

overall you have to be happy

Agreed, skinsdad.

On IR this year: Carrier, Culliver, Gallette, Hayward, Ihenacho, Lauvao, Paea, Paul, Paulsen, Roberts, Spaight.

That's a starting CB
A starting OLB
A starting S
A starting Guard
A starting DE
A #3 Wr
The #2 - 4 TE's
and two Special Teams standouts.

A RIDICULOUS amount of injuries.

I had 'em going 5-11 at best 6-10 so they outperformed my expectations. My spidey senses are telling me that @Shark may be spot on with the NFL's parlaying the league into one where parity is the norm. It concerns me because I'm looking for longevity, in fact I want our entire division to return to the NFL juggernaut that it once was, where the winner became the odds on favorite to win it all, simply because that division winner would have already beaten the best in the game. Sigh...oh well.

I had us going7-9 after I heard Kirk was the starting QB, but it definitely didn't start well given the injuries we had. But now I'm greedy. We can beat the Packers. This is the hottest team right now in the NFL.

I am thinking that is the Chiefs. But we are peaking at the right time.

I can't say I will be happy when we lose, but this season has been nothing but a success. We add a few more pieces in the draft and via FA, and we should be on our way to being the team to beat in our division. We have got to shore up the running game on offense and we have to stop the big plays on defense. One of our first priorities has to be a premier FS.

No worries. Who knows - the NFC-E may be the best in a few years. These things all go in cycles especially in the NFC. It wasn't too long ago that the NFC-W was in the same situation & now they have been the NFC rep in the last 3 SBs & have 2 of the 3 major NFC favorites at this time. Last season the NFC-S was in the same situation & they now have the team with the best record in the NFL.

This is the NFL & things change quickly. The encouraging news for the Redskins is that they are on the rise & building via young talent & not overpriced, aging players.

Chiefs with 10 wins in a row have to be considered the hottest and most under the radar I guess.

Hottest? Yes. Under the radar? No way especially if you are talking about the views of the remaining playoff teams.

I can't speak for other teams. I think I am talking more about perception, at least in the DC area. Teams that have been talked about are the usual suspects. Because KC got off to a 1-5 start and have never lead their division I don't know that most folks around here realize they have won 10 in a row. I am sure that is why the comment above about the Skins being the hottest team was made.

I think that I know the mindset & why the comment above was made. I saw this in DC with the Redskins, in LA with the Lakers & I see this now in Alabama with all of the "Roll Tide" folks.

However - any fan that follows the NFL should be aware of the current success of the Chiefs. All that I have been hearing for the last several weeks is watch out for the Chiefs, Steelers and Seahawks.

I was happy about being overlooked/not talked about much by the national media this season. Pundits didn't have their 'go to' lazy journalism lol skins info to ridicule this franchise about. I like that!

You're probably right about that. But we always talk about having too long of a win streak because that bubble will eventually pop. Personally I'd rather have a 4 game winning streak going into the playoffs than a 10 game winning streak. We would have if an 8 game winning streak if we were to win it all. KC would have a 14 game win streak...That's a very long winning streak.

You could say we're the "hottest" given our winning streak and how we've dominated our opponents during that time. If you take a look at the Chiefs streak, they've beaten some pretty weak teams and a lot of their games were awfully close.

Steelers, 23-13 (sans Big Ben)
Lions, 45-10
Broncos, 29-13 (sans Peyton)
Chargers, 33-3
Bils, 30-22
Raiders, 34-20
Chargers, 10-3
Ravens, 34-14
Browns, 17-13
Raiders, 23-17

While I would be happy if things ended this weekend, I'm hoping we don't play the game with this type of mentality. If we play like we're just happy to have made the playoffs, we'll get boat raced.

Pretty sure that players from NFL teams in the playoffs never think like this. If the Redskins lose then most likely it just means that the other team was better on that day.

Do you remember our teams under Zorn and Spurrier? Some players were there just to pick up paychecks. Fortunately, McCloughan has made sure we don't have those types of players anymore and has acquired those that know how to put things in perspective. The problem is that we still have a lot of young players who've got no playoff experience and the Pack's whole team has gone through this grind for years.
