Projecting the 2016 Compensatory Draft Picks - Over the Cap

These guys are pretty good, but not perfect. Currently have us getting:
3. For JT
4 - For OF
6 - for Knighton

The good - if we get a third for JT that would be great. I think he is borderline and we might just get a 4th.

The bad - we missed out on a 7th round pick for Tamme. As well as he played early on I was hopeful to get a comp pick for him.

I believe this year, teams are allowed to trade comp picks. I thought I heard that somewhere.

Once again Denver will be picking close to last or last and once again be no value to trade out of first so there is a very good chance, if they make a move, it will be to trade up. Prob for lineman.

Schefter tweets that the league is "expected to allow" compensatory picks to be traded this year.

I think you are right, since the article you linked is from December, but the Schefter tweet is from November.

hope we get off our ASS and select a TOP end Running Back... the system we are running needs a true running back and we don't have one right now outside of an OK game here or there by Hillman or CJ... Its all up in the air, we need lineman and a great RB for sure

To me this is where I am torn. I watch Ezekiel Elliot run and think "Man this kid on our team would dominate for us for years." At the same time I look at the history of great RB's under Kubiak and very rarely has he had to use a high end draft pick to get a top end RB. It is more about the system than the player. Again though not sure I have watched many RB's as good as Elliot. I mean he finished as the top pass blocking RB in college football, he has very good hands, and of course can score any time the ball is in his hands. Still not sure on his fit with our system considering he does like to dance in the backfield sometimes and well that doesn't usually fly well with the ZBS.

The Supplemental picks is again to me why Elway is showing just the work he has been able to do with this team. If you are getting Supplemental picks it usually means you have lost top end players and didn't need to spend big yourself in FA to replace them. I mean every year people keep predicting the Broncos falling off a cliff and all they have done is have the #1 seed 3 of the last 4 years with the other being the #2 seed. IT is also why again this off season we might lose a couple of players but because we have seen the young talent step up this year I don't have any doubt that our team will be just fine. Throw in then having extra draft picks to reload the roster with very cost effective players. Really wish they had allowed the whole trading of Supplemental picks this year though instead of next.

I don't like the idea of drafting a RB early. Improve the o-line and I think we already have a good group of RBs. Good as Portis was, he was certainly no TD.
