Good win! Hopefully Deshields is the Rangers lead off man for a long time. He makes things happen. Is he under team control for awhile?

Odor hasn't played since cracking his right middle fingernail when he was hit by a grounder Tuesday. He did work out again prior to the game and should be back in there soon. Hanser Alberto is holding down second base again in Odor's place.

Best I can tell Gallardo had 10 K's against Oakland and Colby 9 against the Angels. So this was just our 2nd double digit strike out game. I was just curious since we do not have Yu racking up K's.

We should have Yu for 2016 and 2017 right?

That's the plan....Let's see how he looks for the rest of the season. Wonder if he'd do any tossing in winter ball just to stretch it out a little?

Also, we took care of our business, which is 1st and foremost. But the Astro's and Angel's both lost too.

Good way to start the weekend.

Rather quiet this morning so I just read this article about a movie that I think is really great in "The Usual Suspects". One of my sons told me a few years ago I needed to watch this movie and glad I did. Great acting especially by Spacey. Just to pass the time until the game starts. Now if you plan on watching it and never have then of course do not read the article.

Some have been big fans of trying to get Matt Wieters in the off-season. Here's some interesting info on him for 2016.

While Wieters was once thought to be a franchise cornerstone — he was drafted fifth overall in 2007, and was in the majors by 2009 — it’s an open question as to whether he is even worth re-signing in free agency this winter. Though his recovery time from Tommy John surgery was roughly normal for a catcher, he hasn’t hit well at all since returning in early June.

He has only tallied extra-base hits in back-to-back appearances three times, and back-to-back Orioles’ games just once — July 31st and August 1st. His strikeout rate has gone through the roof — he is swinging out of the zone more often and in the zone less often, and missing way more no matter the pitch’s location. His swinging strike percentage has risen from 7.7% before his surgery to 12.2% this season. And while sometimes hitters trade strikeouts for power, Wieters’ power has fallen through the floor — his .149 ISO is the third-lowest of his career, and a 32-43 point drop from his previous four seasons. If it weren’t for a .344 BABIP propping up his batting average, he’d look like a complete zero offensively. Oh, and he sucks at pitch framing.

What a great day in the life of Chris G. His HR stroke is coming around and it's put out there he is the personal catcher for Cole H. That's got to help a baseball future

At the risk of being nit-picky, since he's got 10 HR in his ML life, and 4 to show for this season, I'm not sure what you mean about his "HR stroke coming around."

And this from the DMN re: Hamels and who catches him:

Hamels has worked with both catchers — Bobby Wilson and Gimenez — and not expressed a preference.

Gimenez caught Hamels’ win at Detroit on Sunday. Banister also wants to avoid pushing either cather too hard. Neither is an everyday player at this stage of his career.

“You starting trying to treat either one of them like an everyday guy at this point, not good for them,” Banister said.

Very important time to win some ball games this weekend. If we win today or tomorrow then we are guaranteed to gain on 2 relevant teams in the playoff race. The Orioles ( duh) and the Twinkies / Astros are playing each other. Jimenez is tough on us, but we are playing good ball right now. Let's keep the train rolling!

Yeah looking it more from his perspective. Of course he is no world beater with home runs. I read where he thought he found his repeatable stroke. Now re him catching Hamels, watch this. I think he gets the rest of the starts for him.

Point is I think he feels like he has a regular spot on this team for the foreseeable future and I would not be surprised if he is a back up on the roster even next year. His major league career has taken a turn for the better. He had to feel good about this.
