It is complete trash. The Rangers didn't give up either of their top two prospects, any of their young kids already in the majors, they dumped Harrison's salary and they had Philly eat some money. Other than having Philly ship him down here for free, the Rangers did a heck of a job

Getting them to eat Harry's contract really changes the dynamic of this trade greatly.

Agree. When I saw that he wrote we unloaded the farm system I thought you have to be kidding me. If you have a farm system in the top 5 you better have a lot more than just 3 prospects to consider the fact we unloaded the farm. And those rankings come and go on prospects. The Rangers still have plenty more where that came from down on the farm.

It seems that Hamels regular rotation spot would be due about now. Not sure when he will get to pitch but when he does he will be out of sync somewhat with him having more days off. But after that he should be good to go.

Especially when you consider the draft the Rangers just had.

It would be tonight but I doubt he's here in time. Probably still getting physicals done.

Will not have to see Brandon Moss for a while. Was just traded to the Cardinals.

Supposedly his wife has family in dfw and he liked the idea.

I read that as well which I had no idea about him having family here. I'm just excited that the only 2 teams in the A.L. he would accept a trade to was the Yankees and Rangers...I mean that's great considering out pitching history for many many years.

Seems like a rebuilding move aimed more at 2016 than 2015, though having an ace on the staff this year certainly won't hurt them.

This is probably better value than they would be able to pull in the offseason, and if healthy, their rotation could look like this next season:

Darvish
Hamels
Holland
Perez
Lewis

That's a salty rotation. They need to focus their efforts on getting some bats in the lineup for next season, beefing up the bullpen, and moving either Choo's contract, Elvis' contract or both.

Cowlishaw: Buyer beware! Desperate Rangers risking it all for Cole Hamels | Dallas Morning News

This article by Cowlishaw is complete trash. He acts like Hamels is a rental and this trade is for this year. Dallas really does have some clowns writing the sports.

To be fair, Cowlishaw is a trash writer, so you shouldn't expect much more from him.

That's a contradiction in terms right there. hahaha

But, I normally like Tim, and appreciate the fact he doesn't seem to take himself too seriously.

Now, this said, I thought his article today was hogwash. And said so earlier.

Cowlishaw can be quite insightful and knowledgeable about some things, but then go and spout off a bunch of nonsense like this too. I've never been able to figure him out. Just when I hear him talk intelligently about a topic in depth, he'll go and write utter trash like this.

I've seen him out in public twice, both times at Dallas bars late at night, and both times he was glassy-eyed drunk.

Three interesting facts about Cole Hamels:

1) he scored a 1510 on his SAT, so he's either intelligent or a very lucky guesser

2) his wife is Heidi Strobel, who was a contestant on one of the early years of Survivor and then featured in the pages of Playboy. She's quite easy on the eyes. And yes, her family still lives in the DFW area.

3) Hamels and his wife do a ton of humanitarian work for kids in Africa through the Hamels Foundation.

So... smart, hot wife, charitable. Now, if he can just win us some games...
