You guys obviously watch more TEN games then I. What's your take on Mettenberger as QB of the future vs. Mariota and where do you see your team's deficiencies/serious team needs? What direction do you see them going?

I think Mett's ceiling is Andy Dalton. Mariota is probably an upgrade but it'll take a couple of years to get there. The team needs everything. Better to trade the pick and get as much as possible.

I'm in the "hoard picks and re-stock the shelves with overall talent" camp over drafting Mariota. I think smart teams build their team and add their QB later (see PITT, SEA). The chances to draft a can't miss franchise QB are slim...Andrew Luck isn't exactly a dime a dozen. I figured that TENN would trade this pick to a team for an assload of talent/picks so that a team could draft Mariota but the only team I think is enamored with him enough to try to jump up to get him is PHI. I'm pretty sure Kelly would sport perma-wood if he knew that TENN was serious about trading that pick.

I agree with your assestment of Mett's. A team could do worse. Mariota is a big gamble, maybe with the right coaching staff and system, better to trade him, as you stated.

Tenn GM ass is on the line. No way he should take a flyer on MM? Get those picks and restock Tenn you're more than one player away from being relevant.

If you currently don't have one and you think the QB is a franchise QB you take him. If you aren't sure then see what is offered and trade the pick if the value is there. So it all depends on what they think of Mariota...well, I think TB takes him anyway...

Or do they think Zack can be tge answer? Give him some more weapons on both sides of the ball and see what he can do. I'm just not sold that MM or Winston for that matter are franchise QBs. Luckily I don't have to make those decisions except for on this board.

I wasn't saying Mettenberger can't be the answer or that either of those two is a franchise QB. My whole point was that it comes down to what they think about the QBs in question.

Now IMO, Mettenberger is not the answer. Not sure on Mariota or Winston, but personally I'd draft Mariota.

Good to know when we both become GMs I'll have a trading partner.

Then you'd be the only person in Nashville wanting to do that. The team has come out saying they're "all in" on Mettenberger and the fans support it. Now, WHY they tipped their hand is another story! Would make MUCH more sense to come out publicly (with The Berger on board) and say that you're taking either Winston or Mariota with the second pick and make that pick MUCH more valuable to a trade partner. Then if the phone doesn't ring, you take Leonard Williams and stack the line with Jurrell Casey.

Or do they think Zack can be tge answer? Give him some more weapons on both sides of the ball and see what he can do. I'm just not sold that MM or Winston for that matter are franchise QBs. Luckily I don't have to make those decisions except for on this board.

This. Mettenberger showed great mechanics and ability to go along with major spunk. He'd fuck up and bounce right back up with his head high. That impressed everyone. Going all in with him solves many problems.

Ruston Webster and Whiz's asses are on the line and THIS, more than anything, is why the Titans will NOT win next season. We're five years away from even THINKING about a playoff win.

It'll take a miracle to make this work this season and it starts with the draft. Trade down, pick up a badass DE later in the round and steal a WR with the next pick.

If anyone in the NFL can fuck up a no-lose situation, it's the Titans. If they do, five minutes later you'll see the Chargers as my favorite team. Many fans are alienated and angry right now. I'll always love them but I'm close to walking away for a while. I don't trust ownership, management or the coaches one damn bit.

Nailed it on the head. I think they should trade the pick or take Williams.

Based on my declining confidence in the Titans ability to execute top draft picks since the Locker shocker at #8, here's what I expect:

1.) they draft Mariota (makes zero sense, would finish off this franchise for the next 6-8 yrs, infuriate and alienate what's left of the fanbase, fracture the locker room and get people fired - all of which adds up to them doing it)
2.) trade the pick but get a horrible return
3.) take Williams, dick around and make him the very last player drafted to sign (just like they did with Lewan), generally squander his ability, frustrate him, cut him so he can go to a contender and be the beast he is
4.) shock the world (again) and take a third-round talent at the #2 pick

i really didn't care before, but now I'm hoping they draft him!!!

If they do, I'll get on TV.

I don't know too much about Tennessee drafts but damn, Hammer? You seem close to the edge. I like Tennessee staying with Mettenberger better than drafting Mariota or Winston. I just don't get why you are so negative on Mariota......
Can you fill a ton of needs with a fistful of draft picks? Or do you like the pick of Williams better?

ok I'm over it.
I hoping for your #3. You can trade him to the Titans varsity team NE.
Actually it sucks when such a rabid fan starts losing ALL faith in their team.

I like Williams because filling a bunch of needs with warm bodies isn't going to turn this team into a winner next season.

The Titans used to treat the fans here great. Was just at lunch and overheard a conversation between two guys who've been season ticket holders since 1999 and they're very angry. The ownership is treating the fans like an ATM machine. They're taking and taking but not giving anything back. Also, fans are very angry and frustrated about poor management at the stadium; long-ass lines for everything and rude workers. We're getting stiffed and it's about to get nasty. Local radio personalities who used to LOVE this team are encouraging fans to boycott or donate their tickets to charity or attend games but don't support concessions.

This is a no-win situation and unless ownership changes, status quo will be cool with them and the Titans will end up sucking.

Oh, wait... :L
