Fuck off Leo.

I gotta tell ya, I bailed out pretty much right after this comment.

What do you expect from Martin? He's hitting around .500 for the last 5 games, and has brought his overall average up about 80 points. Even last night he went 1-4, with a walk, so he's certainly showing some positive signs.

Granted, he messed up a ball in CF but then again, we had 3 legitimately from 2 others (Fielder-2, AB-1).

Game 1 against Arizona he looked great at the plate. He has done better lately. Not sure why he seems to blow plays like that in CF at times. Not the first time for that. But we looked horrible as a team last night.

Wandy to start Friday; Detwiler bumped from rotation | texasrangers.com

The Rangers do not need a fifth starter until next Tuesday, and they did not commit to Detwiler, who has struggled on the mound all season. Rodriguez could pitch again Wednesday in the series finale against the Mariners before the team's scheduled day off on April 30.

Detwiler, who allowed five runs on seven hits in 2 1/3 innings on Sunday in a start against Seattle, is currently working on his mechanics and not available out of the bullpen.

So Detwiler may miss more than one start, but he isn't on the DL and won't be avaialble in the pen. That means we are voluntarily going with a 24 man roster for several games. The guy's time in this rotation is limited anyway so I just don't understand being willing to go short on the roster. This seems more like something we might have done for someone like a promising prospect like Martin Perez a few years back and not for a guy who is basically a placeholder. Couldn't they find an injury for him and DL him?

Good question, and I don't have answer one for it. :noidea: This seems like a tailor-made opportunity for the 15 day DL to me.

I was just aggravated at a shitty plate appearance. He's doing much better.

Surprisingly, his ERA is still only 6. Although I know 6 isn't an ideal or even acceptable number, it's better than I thought it'd be since I see pretty much what you have.

Send him to AAA and holler NEXT.

Cant. He's a Rule 5 guy

If the need arises I'm sure they can make some roster adjustments

Just saw that Joe Nathan is out for the season.

Oh well. It was a great career Joe. Thanks for the memories.

They are about to need a roster spot and a spot on the 40 man when they activate Wandy. Verrett seems like the perfect person to show the door to at that point.

Ok send him back to wherever he came from, he's been trash since day 1, at least Detwiler had something going in ST, Verrett was terrible then too

Except he wasn't terrible in ST. For Baltimore (where he pitched all of ST) he had a 2.20 ERA in 16 innings.

My take on any and all players this season is this: It's all about next season.

And what I mean by this - in this particular case (Verrett) - is, he's not standing in the way of anyone else's way of progressing.

I think it's prudent of us for the long term to continue to allow all of our minor leaguers to gain experience without being over-matched.

For us he was bad in his few appearances

He made 1 appearance in ST for the Rangers. (believe Balt started the process to let him go back to the Mets on the 1st or 2nd... and the Rangers claimed him then)

New York Mets vs. Texas Rangers - Box Score - April 03, 2015 - ESPN
Allowed 1 run in 2.1 innings. However, his regular season stats havent been all that great. 4 games - 6 runs allowed (in 9 innings)

Sam Freeman on the other hand.. made a few appearances in ST and sucked. Horribly.

What happened to him? I know the Rangers wanted to sign him to a minor league deal. Since he's not on our 40 man I'm assuming someone else picked him up.
