Why did he lay down?

Serious question, I just do not understand.
When the Packer made the final interception Morgan Burnett (I think) laid down.
Why?
He appeared to be wide open 20 yards to his right and at least 10 to his left.
Even the commentators said he "wisely" laid down.

Why? at 19-7 with 5 minutes left, the game was far from locked up, so running out the clock and protecting a lead ain't it.

Don't get me wrong, I really don't care who won, would have liked to see a Packer/Patriot rematch, also glad to see Pete back in the big game.

I think Peppers ran to him and told him to get down.

Ask Demarcus Lawrence, DE for Dallas.

He's just one of the GB players kicking themselves today. That was an idiotic play.

I have no clue. If there's 1 minute left in the game, you can lay down. 5 minutes left and only a 2 score lead, gotta play that out. Onside kicks don't usually work, but gotta assume it will in games like this. 5 minutes left is enough time to get the ball back and make a miracle happen.

Because at that point, it appeared that Seattle's only shot would be if he had fumbled trying to get unnecessary yardage giving the ball right back to Seattle. 99% of the time, he does that, the offense comes out and gets a first down or 2 and the game is over.

No way for him to know that the offense would go 3 and out and the Seahawks would score 15 points in 44 seconds. Especially with how bad their offense had been all game long.

He made the right play, it was just that 1 time out of 100 when weird crap happened.

It is this mentality among NFL champion wannabes to play not to lose instead of keeping your foot on the accelerator for 60 minutes. You don't give a team like Seattle any chances-ever. I don't care how many minutes are left. It's about using your head and many teams just don't get it. You won't see Bellicheat taking his foot off the accelerator. 45 to 7. You keep scoring until the final gun sounds. That's why the New Englands of the world are always a threat to win it all.

GB lost because AR was gimping. A healthy Rogers and this games ends differently. But the fact is he was gimping and the Seattle made it happen.

I didn't care who won, but it was a great one to watch though. A hell of a lot better than the beating NE put on Indy.

I thought it was the right thing to do. Protect the football. Too many guys make a pick then try to go to the house with it and end up stripped, giving the ball right back. Defensive guys are NOT accustomed to carrying the ball and are much more likely to fumble it the longer they run around with it.

Like TF12 said, 99 times out of 100 that is the smartest play to make.

Good read...

Seattles first score never should have happened had Dom Capers put pressure on Wilson on a drive where the SeaHawks needed 31 yards for a first down...rushing 3 DL with 5 OL to block is just stupid.

I couldn't help but laugh watching Wilson roam around waiting for holes in that zone D to open up.

If you're a Patriot fan you should know why, since your team won a playoff game in 2006 because Marlon "Dumbest Fuck in Charger History" McCree didn't lay down, and it cost my team one of their best chances ever at a possible championship.

Great post, agreed entirely. I never understood why people got so upset when the Pats kept scoring and Bill flat out said, "Play until the time winds out." He's absolutely correct. If the opposing team wants respect, then stop them. I think I heard big mouth Sherman say that as well, and he's right.

Holmgren was an ultra conservative coach and look where that got him. I guess BARELY one super bowl win with one of the more talented teams of the 90s.

I would understand If there was tacklers near him. But there was green grass and blockers out in front of him.

THIS THIS THIS. I have never understood why you would ever rush 3 in any situation except maybe a Hail Mary. You're basically giving up on getting pressure and guaranteeing the QB gets at least 5 seconds back there to make something happen.

I agree Hu but I also remember watching this live and thinking a thousand one, a thousand two, a thousand three , a thousand four and finally a Seattle guy runs up and touches him. My eyes quickly swept up the field to try and see what he was seeing. There was no one there for a good 15 yards and those extra yards would have been huge.

R Wilson had a 10 count to complete a 19 yard 1st down pass play on that 3rd down completion. :L

There is plenty of blame to go around the GB locker room tho. It was a comical collection of plays that did them in thruout the game.

Again...Congrats to Seattle for not giving up til the final bell.

Bottom line, this comeback (like most great comebacks) doesn't happen without at least some cooperation by the Packers. If memory serves, after the interception, the Packers offense had a penalty and/or loss that pushed them farther back in their own territory and resulted in better field position for Seattle when they punted.

I believe there was also an incomplete pass that stopped the clock.

Then, of course, the onside kick where it turned out that Bostic wasn't supposed to try and catch the ball. He was supposed to block so Nelson could catch the ball.

Heck, you can go all the way back to the Packers first 2 drives when they had to settle for field goals. If at least one of those are a touchdown, it's likely that Seattle isn't in position to make a comeback.

So Dom Capers gets thrown under the bus for that yet no one gives him credit for his squad's 4 takeaways.

You just can't please some people.
