The Redskins will interview former Cowboys coach Wade Phillips for their open defensive coordinator position.
68 before next season, Phillips would not be an exciting hire for Washington, but he makes a lot of sense. Phillips runs a 3-4 defense and knows A.J. Smith from the pairs' time together in both Buffalo and San Diego. Phillips has not had much success as a head coach, but he has been a very successful defensive coordinator at every stop. He most recently led the Texans to three top-ten total defense performances from 2011-13.

When everyone was hollering Ryan I like Wade. He is the Norv of D. A good DC but not a good HC.

While Wade Phillips isn't a good HC, he is a very good DC. He is a DC that actually knows what he is doing. He's been a pretty good DC, wherever he's gone, except for the Falcons back in 2003. I believe he got a raw deal, there. He only was the DC for one year and inherited a team that played the 4-3, forever. Rex Ryan would've been the best hire for DC. However, he seems that he might be getting another HC gig. Not to mention, I don't know how he'd mesh in Washington. The 2nd logical choice is Phillips.

Sounds good, not feeling A.J. Smith though.

Worried about his age? Wade Phillips is 67, Dick freaking LeBeau is 77.

At this point, I wish they would just hire some one and give the team some fucking sort of direction for 2015. considering the last presser from our GM basically said "We are going to do something, I have no fucking clue what."

Im not a fan of hiring Wade or Rex, but at least it would give us some sort of direction.

I think you have to wait and see what happens in San Francisco. At least I hope that's what they do. Wade isn't going anywhere. Haven't heard his name connected to any other team. Finding a way to bring in Fangio would be a nice start to the season. I respect Wade and could live with it, but ever since Allen got here its been the "who you know," or "who I'm cool with" hires.

look i get the anti allen sentiment however if anyone was thinking they were going to get a detailed step by step plan from the organization then they are high as a GA pine

i cant see them tipping their plans

now he said some stupid things for sure but we will have to wait and see how this shakes out . fangio interviews tuesday and shanny has already scored huge points with the 49ers so we will see

This doesn't bode well for any reported hope that the team is nterested in Scot McCloughan, who should be the first hire here and the person doing interviews for prospective coaching hires along with the HC. If the standard trend continues, where there are interviews, hires, coaching and player movements ahead of an enticing offer to get him, don't be surprised if his reply is "Hell No!!!"

Dysfunction at its' best!!!!!

Maybe it's because the player personnel guy won't come here unless his title is GM and he has control ( he did just reject Oakland bcause they wanted him to work under McKenzie). It's rare that a solid guy like that rejects form (Mckenzie) in favor of dysfunction (Allen). Stranger things have happened though.
