Assuming that Andre Ellington won't be a full-go on Sunday, which of these 2 guys would you stick in at the Flex and why?

I'm just trying to prepare ahead of time.

I think that's pretty much a tossup. Bears run defense was worse than Jacksonville's pass defense, but the Eagles should have a pretty potent passing attack. Maybe the Bears can stop the run, though, if Buffalo can't effectively throw.

Seems reasonable to me to expect both players to have good days. Hard to predict which of the two has the better day.

In these cases I usually go with the RB, because at least a RB will get you a handful of points. A WR always runs the risk of putting up a zero.

Yea that's where I'm stuck on this one. Maclin could have a huge day, or he could have nothing.

Jackson isn't going to have a huge day likely, but should get some opportunities around the goal line.

I'm a gambler so I tend to automatically lean towards Maclin, but I probably shouldn't.

I would go with Maclin. I really can't see a situation he puts up a zero on Sunday. Unless he gets injured during the game. He should be a consistent source of fantasy production this year. More than likely the only WR target on the Eagles that will be.

Curious why you think that. I see no reason that both Cooper and the rookie Mathews fail to consistently produce.

I'm not trying to speak for Shady here. . But. . The Eagles offense is 50/50 run pass (actually 50.4% pass last year), which ranks them pretty low on the totem pole as far as being a big time passing team. They are very efficient, but there's only so many passes to go around. You know Shady will get his, and as long as Maclin is on the field, it's not even a question as to who the most reliable target is. Cooper, and probably Mathews, will have a few very good games, but expecting consistency from either of them is very realistic, the volume just won't be there. They both fall into that "bye week/injury fill in" category, and you just hope the week you need them. Is one of those good weeks.

But. . There's hope, the liklihood of Maclin playing 16 games isn't high, and if he's off the field, one of the two will be consistently reliable.

Perhaps you are right, but I see things a bit differently. Seems to me that Maclin will fill the void left by Jackson's departure in terms of targets, so that should still leave quite a few opportunities for Cooper and Mathews. I am extremely high on Mathews and wouldn't be too surprised if he is a candidate for offensive rookie of the year.

I can see a few good games out of them but I don't expect either to be consistent week to week. I expect a lot of regression from Cooper. I'm not totally sold on Mathews at this point. You have Ertz who I do like but doubt he comes into his own this year with Celek still around. A lot of mouths to feed on the offense and i'm not sure anyone past Foles, McCoy and Maclin can be a every week contributor. No idea how Chip plans to deploy Sproles and McCoy together. I think we see a really good offense but maybe no fantasy studs outside of Foles and McCoy.

OK. . So let's assume that premise is about right and Maclin only accounts for roughly what DJAX did, nothing more nothing less. We also have to assume that Cooper+Mathews will be roughly equivalent to Cooper+Avant..
Coopers game logs in catches last year: 2,2,2,2,0,4, 6,2,5,3,3,3,3,4,3,3.
Avant's: 2, 4,5,1,3, 4, 3, 3, 0, 2, 1,1,DNP, 3, 3, 3.

Those just aren't consistent startable numbers. The Eagles would have to up the pass attempts to bring these guys into weekly consideration.

PPR I go with Maclin. The Eagles are playing a weak secondary.

See I could just easily see Jackson getting a couple goal line opportunities and scoring 12 points alone right there just by default.

I'm not so sure that one can simply extrapolate like that. Like I say, I think that Mathews is likely to be a beast. To the extent that is right, I suspect that Chip Kelly finds a way to get the ball in his hands. I also think that after producing more catches, yards, and TDs last year than he combined for in his first three years in the league suggests that he could be emerging as a productive receiver.

No you're right, it's a very simpleton way of looking at it. . But it is the only actual numbers we can extrapolate from. It's entirely possible that either or both take a substantial amount of targets from Maclin or whoever, but it's pure speculation. I'd love to see it happen, more viable alternatives to play every week. It's just that if the offense remains similar, the numbers suggest there isn't room for them to be consistent fantasy guys. Like I said, hope that changes, would love to see those guys getting 5+ catches a game
