Advanced stats becoming the rage in NHL

I'm sorry, but some times there is too much information. I am not a major star hound, and I don't want Hockey to turn into baseball. By that I mean the amount of statistics use by that sport is way rediculous.
There is such a thing as too much of a good thing.
I would think that for a skater G,A,P,S,SP,+/- would be enough. But now they have Corsi and others that just confuses the game.
Just my opinion. Go ahead and tip me a new one.

Hockey is too dynamic of a sport to be described by stats as baseball is, but I don't mind these advanced stats, allows you to look at things from different perspectives. Also, I don't see hockey fans overload each other with advanced stats like the fans of other sports, so I don't think we have anything to worry about as hockey fans. We'll survive this, I'm certain of it.

I will say this however. Read an article the other day that advanced stats will greatly influence the Toronto Maple Leafs' management in making roster decisions (http://mapleleafs.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=728545). Not sure if this is the right way to go about things, but hopefully this isn't how the majority of the teams go about business. I think there as to be good communication between the coach and GM, rather than have to go thru a statistician.

If teams like the Flyers and Maple Leafs use advanced stats to make their decisions, I could see them failing badly.

Thank goodness it's the Flyers and Maple Leafs trying this out. If it were teams that could win the Cup, this could become a trend.

Dean said a few years ago that they look at advanced stats. However, they are just one of many tools. Stats don't measure leadership, heart or personality.
Players may not look at them much but I bet their agents do.

Corsi is general indicator of possession. If I recall all it really measures is shot attempts. If over the course of the game player A is on ice for 14 shot attempts towards an opponents net and on for say 8 shots attempts towards his own net, that indicates more time was spent in the offensive zone while he was on the ice.

Also Dean spends well more than his fair share looking at advance stats. LA has lead the league the last 2 years in Corsi as a team, and was second in 2011-2012, which of course was their first Stanley Cup.

Over a 5 year span between 2009-2014, Justin Williams leads the league in Corsi for players. I often accuse him of holding on to the puck too long, but good things tend to happen when he's on the ice.

Kings formula for success:
1) build goaltender and defense first
2) team-first character players only
3) size and possession (hence Kings' emphasis on high Corsi players)
4) minor-league system same as above so prepared when get to Kings
