They should have this pick taken from them. They're more than likely going to end up with the #2 and #4 pick.

This was your original post: They should have this pick taken from them. They're more than likely going to end up with the #2 and #4 pick.

My response was why?....in reference to having the pick taken from them. And the How?....refers to how would MLB go about this?

You answer neither.

You would sing a different tune if the same thing, if for some reason our pick failed to sign this year,

I'm not condoning how Houston did what they did, but they found something about Aiken they didn't like and chose to low ball him,

Many teams would've done the same thing

We did it to ra dickey, took 90% of his signing bonus off the table after the discovery that he lacked a ucl

Difference Aiken is testing his options, Dickey didn't

Agree 100% on each.

Most are cold hard facts. Just hard to accept.

I've felt this way for about a month. It's a weird feeling. When they're winning a game I find myself wanting them to close it out. When they're losing I really don't care anymore. It's kind of nice not to have to ride the emotional roller coaster, but I still wish I was (if that makes sense).

I would much rather them be on pace for a 5th 90 win season, but as that dream is over I am trying to be realistic and optimistic about the future. Someone put it to me this way...Do you really want to see Texas win 70 games on the backs of Adam Rosales, Daniel Robertson, and JPA? No you really dont....Might as well lose 100 and get a potential stud out of it.

Because I didn't know that was your question. I thought you were referencing the picks. A lot of people were unhappy with the way they handled Aiken. Like JTA said, they low balled him after thinking there might be something wrong with his arm even though he struck out 14 and was hitting 98 MPH in his last start, while reporting no pain. Then a revised offer for $3.16m was extended to make sure Houston would get a compensation pick next year.

I think they will draft Aiken again if he's there with their pick. I think they wanted to save the money and have 2 of the top picks in next years draft. Either way it's been heavily scrutinized.

Justin, Justin, Justin.....I get the outrage. Unfortunately your outrage is focused on the wrong party.

It's within the boundaries of fair play, according to MLB. I think what's bugging you is "they took advantage of the situation." Me too; a little.

But when MLB writes the rules, and Houston abides by them, don't hate on them. Hate on the rule. It needs to be addressed and probably will shortly.

What he's doing now is irrelevant to future problems, hence the Rangers low-balling Dickey, even though he was hitting 95 with no pain before the draft

So what Aiken is doing now is irrelevant to what the Astros see being a problem in the future

Now the real issue in what the Astros did is less about Aiken than what they did later, they went over slot in other places and expected to be able to sign Aiken at a reduced contract and he balked, which threw the whole thing out of wack and they also had to take back their offer to Nix

Aiken has issues and the Astros didn't want to pay him #1 money as a result, I have no problem with that, how they handled the whole situation is what is problematic, and due to the MLB draft salary slotting rules, all the Astros did was play by the rules handed to them by MLB and an unexpected situation with Aiken's elbow

Astros did some finagling but it was all allowed in the way the system is set up, blame the system not the Astros

In my mind it's a no brainer and I think we deserve it given the unprecedented injury woes we have had to endure. Would be a glimmer of hope after a shity season.

Notable first overall picks:
1987- Ken Griffey Jr.
1990- Chipper Jones
1992- Phil Nevin
1993- Alex Rodriguez
1995- Darin Erstad
1999- Josh Hamilton
2000- Adrian Gonzalez
2001- Joe Mauer
2005- Justin Upton
2007- David Price
2009- Stephen Strasburg
2010- Bryce Harper
2011- Gerritt Cole

Every once in awhile there is a " can't miss" guy like Griffey, Price, Mauer, or A-rod.

What on earth are you talking about?

"We deserve it?" b/c woe is us? That'll play well.

Sorry.....but this is your worse point yet.

I meant to say after all the pain and suffering we have had this year, it would be really nice to get the first pick.
