Luck or Cutler? Will either (or both) be a top 5 fantasy QB?

i will go with Luck having the chance as much as i think Cutler has the tools and system his potential to miss games forces a no out of me....

Top 5?? maybe... But honestly anyone in the top 10 past the top 3 are the same...

I dont see much of a difference between any... But if i had to put money on cutler or Luck i would have to put it on cutler, only because he has 2 top 10 WRs...

I don't see any room for improvement for Cutler. Luck, on the other hand, is still developing and has an additional quality receiver in Nicks. I think if Luck isn't in the top 5 he'll be within a handful of FF points of it.

Im gonna play contrarian, Luck is good, he puts up points, he gets you some rushing yards

Luck had
3822 yards, 23 td's 9 int, 377 rushing yards 4 tds no games missed and a horrible run game.........they've brought in nicks, who has underachieved like crazy, wayne is gonna be a question mark and hilton FAILED to thrive except 1 game when he was given the spotlight.........

Everyone is projecting a move forward from luck, and he may as a qb, but fantasy wise im not so sure......hes gonna be good......but i think the run game gets back on track.........

Cutler

had good numbers prior to getting hurt, The O was just getting rolling, and the qb whisperer trest was just getting started......he came back and performed Meh......But with Jeffrey coming out, Marshall still there, and trestmans O now going full bore........I see cutler taking the FANTASY jump forward.....i still think his mistakes will be there........I see more downfield throws, and two big bodies in the red zone.........and lets face it forte isnt your typical goal line back.......i dunno i think it could be cutler at a much later draft spot

Well you've got Manning, Brees, Rodgers, then a CF of guys from 4 to like around 8 or so. any two of them have realistic shots at being "top 5" Stafford, Brady, Luck, Romo, Newton, Ryan, RGIII, Wilson, Kaeps, and yes even Cutler, given the possibility of having a decent offensive game plan.
My personal choice to round out that top five would be Stafford and Brady, but I really don't see a huge difference in most. The one guy I wouldn't trust to be there is Cutler, but I wouldn't argue against him all that hard.

I don't think I'd feel confident without a good backup QB if I was relying on either Luck or Cutler, personally. The reason I'd take my chances on Cutler over Luck this season is ADP. They could easily post similar stats, and you could pair Cutler up with another late round QB (Dalton, Rivers, BigBen, Russel Athletic) and get solid pts from QB position every week. Hell, depending on the flow of your draft, you can go Romo-Cutler, and have 2 guys likely to miss a few games here and there, but also likely to get you at least close to 300yds each week, and a handful of TDs.

Just for the shits of it, I went and checked our final MBBRL player rankings..
was shocked to see Andy Dalton at #3..granted Rodgers was hurt or he'd have been #4..but wow..strange shit can happen. I know they intend to run more under the new coach, but maybe we shouldn't be sleeping on the poor red headed step child??

Not as long as AJ Green is out there catching passes.

Either one at this point. Cutler has the better scheme to play under for a QB so I would probably lean towards him. Also, since he has the better WR's. But Luck has great upside/potential. One could make a case for either qb.

last year the top 14 QBs scored 300 or more... and after the big guys(manning, brees) the highest was 353... so moral of the story, if you dont get the big guys, the difference is very minimal...

If you believe a QB will become one of the big guys then you may want to reach, but if you dont get one of the big 3 QBs, i would avoid waisting a top pick on any...

I agree with milk's post here above me.

To answer the question though, Luck.

I know some of you don't like Matthew Berry, but this is from his recent 100 Football Facts:

26. If you combine the 2013 fantasy points of Jay Cutler and Josh McCown, the Bears combo QB was the third highest scoring QB.

27. Prior to getting injured in the Week 7 game against Washington, Jay Cutler was tied for sixth in total fantasy points among quarterbacks.

28. Based on 2013 blitz percentage, Jay Cutler and the Bears will face the least blitz-heavy schedule (28.7 percent) in the NFL.

Averages for Luck & Cutler:
Luck = [Season] 16 games, 4010 yards, 25 TD (2 seasons)
Luck = [per Game] 250.6 YPG, 1.5 TD
Cutler = [Season] 12 games, 2793 yards, 17 TD (last 3 seasons)
Cutler = [per Game] 232.7 YPG, 1.4 TD

Oh, I like Matthew Berry. Very funny. I don't think he's that useful in fantasy (depends on Last Year too much), but I like him.

Cutler = [Season] 12 games, 2793 yards, 17 TD (last 3 seasons)
Cutler = [per Game] 232.7 YPG, 1.4 TD

Starting season #2 in Trestman era, has to stay healthy though, or those numbers won't get better than his avg.

Rich Gannon's 2nd season with Trestman produced most completions/attempts, and most yards in the league. 26Tds (not counting 3rush TDs), and 10ints. Gannon was 37yrs old, with the grey bush WR tandem of Rice and Brown. Charlie Garner was his RB. I like what the Bears have in place over what OAK had back then, and that group made a couple runs at SB's with that offense.

Not saying Cutler's going to lead the league in anything this year, just sharing what I've been looking at. But GB is the only other team that I can think of that can support 2 WRs getting drafted in the first 2-2.5 rounds, and look where Rodgers gets drafted.

Tough question. Luck is the better QB, but his o coordinator is terrible and would rather force running the ball rather than play to his teams biggest strength, which is Andrew lucks arm. This year, I'd probably go cutler.

That's an interesting point, but it seems to me that Indy has seriously upgraded its firepower in the passing game. Getting Wayne and Allen back, having added Nicks and Moncrief, and Hilton having emerged last year as a top-tier WR all make me think that Luck will be asked to air it out much more than he has in the past.

I won't be too surprised if both the Colts and the Bears have top five offenses.

They should improve a little, but pep Hamilton will still try to hand the ball off to Bradshaw and Richardson. It's just the offense he runs.

I think the Bears will have a better defense; a better running game; and worse weather to play in. For those reasons I would go with Luck.
