And by then the new TV deal will be in place.

So, he won't care.

People, usually you:lol:, don't want to acknowledge the advantage the Lakers have over other teams.

That TV deal gives them enough to cover all of the Teams salary and large portion of the Luxury tax.

That is huge when building a team.

Soon, your team will enjoy the same benefit.

well the Lakers also dont have the money to go into the red like the Cavs/Blazers/Mavs/Nets/Heat/now the Clips-

the lakers are a family owned business- and their main business is basketball- they arent supplemented by a huge mortgage business, or cruiselines , or a computer empire, or a mining empire etc.

Gilbert is not going to pay 80 million in tax like the Russian- but after they use that Haywood contract- and get into repeater range (which will take a couple years)- he will definitely be in the 40-50 M range is my guess

I didn't realize he spent that much in James' final few years there, but he did.

Well, as they say, you ain't seen nothing yet.

Gilbert paid the luxury tax big time Lebron's last 3 years in Cleveland- like i said- he had a top3 payroll in the NBA in Cleveland! - he has never once shied away from anykind of deal because of salary concerns

do you know how much he paid to get the Clippers #1 pick the year it turned into Kyrie? the Clippers pick was looking to be anywhere from 6-10 in the lotto- the Cavs took on Baron Davis' ridiculous contract for a broken down player-

Gilbert basically paid like 20 million dollars to get an extra #1 pick- which turned out to be brilliant since it landed them Kyrie

in order to get the extra picks that became karasev and zeller- 2 guys that helped faciltate the return of JAmes- the Cavs took on the last 2 years of Walton's terrible deal from the Lakers and spent near 10 million

why did the Cavs want the Haywood contract SOOO bad from the Hornets? because next year- after the amneisted years run out on Haywoods deal- he has a 10.5M team option- the Cavs will use to take some other teams bad contract in order to add another talented piece---- even though it will cost them a ton of money and send them flying into tax range

you wont find the Cavs winning a title after LeBron agrees to take a paycut and then LOWERING the payroll but amnestying a guy who basically single handedly won a finals game just to save a few bucks on the luxury tax- that is for sure like mickey did

What?!?!?! What game did Mike Miller single handedly win? Are you talking about game 5 of the 2012 Finals? Because the Heat absolutely destroyed OKC in that game.

Besides, Miller was injured during his time in Miami and couldn't have been counted on for the salary he was getting paid. Miami had other players in Battier, Lewis, Allen and James Jones that could play the same duties. It was a smart business decision at the time. You mention luxury tax from the new CBA though, let's talk about the CBA from 2010 onward. Where the punitive taxes are far more significant.

The next one will be very interesting.

I potentially could see them losing a full season.

The Dude reminds me of Vince McMahon from the WWE.

He loves to insert himself into the storyline:doh:.

But by all accounts, Cuban is a great Owner and his players absolutely LOVE him.

That's why I was so shocked that they got spurned by every top Free Agent over the last few years:noidea:.

Yeah, I have no idea why Dallas whiffed on Howard, Williams, etc. As a player, I'd love to have an owner like Cuban. That guy is a fan.

He actually never said never.

I think it was something more along the lines of exactly what he said in February when he said he couldn't envision himself playing anywhere but Miami.

Semantics.

Yes, he left himself an out by saying " Planning".

But, the ridicule would still be unyielding if he left again.

"I don't plan on going nowhere," James said. "I don't have the energy to do it again."

i mean- i would buy your argument if they went and spent the money elsewhere but they reduced their payroll

and to REDUCE your payroll after winning a title by amnestyinga guy who not too long ago went 7/8 from 3 point land in a finals game- and then landed in memphis where he shot 47% from the 3 point line- is ridiculous

i mean - obviously in retrospect its not even close- you have to admit that was a terrible choice by arison-

I love how important Mike Miller has suddenly become.

The year we most needed him to be important was Big 3, year 1, when he was injured all season.

By the time he was amnestied, the Heat had added Allen, Battier, Lewis.

It made total sense to HOPE Oden and/ or Beasley could add another dimension then stockpile yet another one dimensional 3 point shooter.

Russ, you're simply dumb.

The NBA's Richest Local Television Deals - Forbes

To summarize, the Lakers make $200 mil per year and will make $4 billion over a 20-year span which started in 2011. So, how is it that the Lakers can't make money? That's not even including sponsors, merchandise sales, ticket sales, etc.

I agree - i think the players know they were absolutely wrecked in the last one -especially with the soaring price of these franchises- and Adam Silver is no David Stern

Mike Miller was chronically concussed.

He was the obvious choice to go.

This brings me back to my statement about Gilbert living on his knees with Lebron.

James seems awfully interested in dictating the roster, hiring his buddies.

But, if it brings them a Title, I guess it's worth it :noidea:.

You don't understand how the CBA works. Just because the Heat shedded Miller's $6 million per year salary, doesn't mean that they could use that for another player. The Heat, after amnestying him, were still over the cap where they could only offer the veteran min. The big 3 salary by year 4 had each player at around $20 mil so that's $60 mil of the $63 mil. Udonis Haslem was making somewhere between $4-$5 mil, which he put the Heat at the cap. Then you include Battier and Ray Allen who were on mini-mid levels at around $3 mil, and the rest of the roster was on veteran minimum.

Once again, another dumb statement.

The lux tax is punitive. Gilbert's not going to pay it 3-4 years straight like u insinuated.

then why dont you just keep him then? ESPECIALLY if you know you cant add another guy- that just illustrates how it was a cost-cutting move-

and in restrospect- Miller was healthy and played great last year. - PLUS- it just LOOKS terrible- cutting the payroll by getting rid of him- WHEN YOU KNOW YOU CANT REPLACE HIM- while your big 3 is playing for LESS than the max

it was incredibly short-sighted and came back to bite them in the ass

I agree with you, Mecca. But I think championship organizations set a precedent as well as structure in place for a reason. I understand the Cavs having to do everything in their power to appease Lebron and his crew, I get it. They needed him back.

But I have a feeling that his crew wanted this more than Lebron. They're (his crew) is putting their own perks before Lebron's goal of getting more titles and trying to catch NBA legends. As a Cavs fan, I would question what's going on because Lebron has called the shots before, and we saw how that turned out before.
