sorry but i have to take jason reid's opinion with a grain of salt . he is a known team basher

now i am not saying he could have some points in there but i think if you have lead your team in sacks for 4 years and made 3 PBs you have to be at least pushing elite

i would say rak is very good . elite ? not so much

Orakpo: "I'm Excited for This Year"

i hope we can find a way to keep this guy . he is a class act , he wont hold out , he has showed up when most in his position would not have .

sometimes that should factor in too

With an estimated $11.5 million in cap space for 2015 without doing any reworks, and $63 million in 2016... something tells me we could afford to keep Rak if the team so decides.

He might have found that it was in his best interest to show up. If we did not draft his potential replacement, his leverage would have been much stronger. He will get the benefit of the doubt on this though. If his motivation improves because of fear, I am all for it.

now i am sure a cynic would think this . what ever happened to just believing in a guy , from texas , that his word is his bond ?

and its hardly a "given" that murphy can be anyones replacement he could (i hope not ) bust out

rak has been a good character guy his hole time here in DC . no off field issue , always in shape and working hard . i see no reason to go down cynical lane at the crossroads of mistrust

he signed his tender before the draft . i believe he is legit and mostly trying to be a good employee and negotiating in good faith

It will all play out on the field this year. Orakpo is getting paid a lot for what he has done in the past this year, next years contract will depend on how he plays this year and how paying him again would effect the salary cap.

Agree. Murphy appears to be a solid player but certainly does not even come close to having Orakpo's physical talent. Also - this is the NFL & you need to have depth. It is almost a given that someone in the LB corps will be hurt at sometime in the near future. Especially on defense - the Redskins need as many contributors as possible.

BTW - I love how Reid (in typical WP style) turns what appears to be a positive (signing Hatcher & drafting Murphy) and pretty much turns it into a negative. I also love how he calls out the Redskins' credibility. He should be the last person talking about credibility. I swear - if you didn't know better you would think that the WP is the official media outlet for the Dallas Cowboys.

Great point. Pretty much a win-win situation. If Orakpo falls short then the Redskins have the leverage & can go in a different direction if they like.

He is not elite which you kind of admitted. He wants elite money. He disappears for sometimes 2 quarters plus. He is a good player. He does not rush the inside enough to be elite. He is a nice guy.

Barring an injury, he will get those 8 sacks. It is the rest of the game I would pay attention to.

8 sacks? With all the talent now around him on the DL and OLBs? He'll get 8 in his sleep. The over under for us aggressively trying to sign his has to be 12-14 sacks. he gets north of 14 and we will give him what he wants. He gets under 12 and he may be gone.

wtf??
Your previous posts do nothing but blast any idea but Rak being here long term, and that Murphy has no chance because he is not as "physically gifted". Then you pretty much come all the way over to the common sense side because Sportster said what I have been saying all along.

Hey Sportster. If I email you some time shares, can you try to sell it to these guys? I will split the profits with you.

No offense, but you really need to read things more carefully. Here is what I stated about Murphy:

Murphy appears to be a solid player but certainly does not even come close to having Orakpo's physical talent.

How does that indicate that he has "no chance"? Also - what part of that isn't true? Not all good players are blessed with the same talent as some others, and a good team needs all types.

The rest of my reply also indicated that the Skins really need all of the LBs to contribute. You read way too much into some replies and make your own interpretations. I also don't know where I stated that their only option was to sign Orakpo long term.

I am just trying to state what I believe & I could care less about who posted it. Peace.

So do you pay elite money for players with great physical talent? Or do you pay elite money for players who play like elite players? I am very curious to hear your answer.

he could put up elite numbers next season and it wouldnt matter to some . because they will still say prove it again .

The answer to who you pay and who you don't has everything do to with the cap and not always about how good the player is. We all know the dance, young player works to earn big contract, he gets the contract, team either asks him re-negotiate or cuts him because they can't afford him.

For people my age and really for everyone it is kind of sad. When I was young you had the same players forever if they could still play because you could afford them. I try not to get as attached to players as I used to because they probably won't be here for a full career if they are good.
