If this kid and Jenkins both work out and we resign rak and Kerrigan long term, we might end up with a very productive OLB rotation. The fact tat he apparently used to wrestle steers with his dad for fun is also an interesting little tidbit.

Well you can't coach "want to" and he sounds like a hard worker who gives 110% on every play. I like those kind of guys..

Do you really want to pay RAK 12 mil/season, Kerrigan 10 mil/season, and have a "rotation?" Sorry but I don't see us keeping RAK and Kerrigan if either Jenkins or Murphy "work out."

Dude.. you dont want to pay anyone though. Jenkins and Murphy will cost pennies in comparison over the next three years.

That's my point. You don't overpay RAK if you have guys to take his place. He's not irreplaceable.

I truly hope Rak blows it out this year and we have to pay him big. That's good for the team. He's getting elite money this year without ever putting up elite numbers (for a variety of reasons, some he controls and some he didn't). So we gave him a leap of faith this year. He has to earn it next year or he will be gone.

You also dont just assume that because you drafted a guy he can replace some one who is actually producing for you because you (the fan) feel it would be over paying the guy. I agree he is not irreplacable. But if you dont need to replace him, why would you?

not resigning rak and starting murphy would most likely be a down grade. rak is one of the top olbs in the game and possibly our best defender. murphy hasnt played a down in the nfl.

Nobody is claiming Murphy will be better or that he can replace RAK.

Even if Murphy is a downgrade, what you have to weigh is can the money that we would spend on RAK be used elsewhere to better the team greater than RAK helps it. That is the real question and it will be answered this season. Like I said, all we have to go by is how did the defense do without RAK...they actually performed better. No I am not saying that as an indictment on RAK but it is part of what needs to be weighed.

HOw exactly did we do better without him?? In 2012 without him our defense finished 28th, in 2011 with him we finished 13th and in 2013 we finished 18th.... we finished 3-13 last year because our offense was all fluff no score and left the defense strung out like a crack hoe in down town LA more often than not.

In 2012, after he went out with yet another injury, our defense made the difference in us winning the division. We made the appropriate changes and adapted greatly without him.

Kepp telling yourself that. But if he sucks that bad and is that useless, why would they franchise him when according to your logic, we could have brought in any old stiff at 1/4 his price and been a better defense??

Rak's game totals are as follows 16, 15 16 , 2 ,15

he missed most of one season and now he is an injury prone schlub ?

he has made 3 PBS in 4 "healthy " seasons you can cry all you want about "backing into 2 and what not as j-y19 does but the fact are he had to be top 8 at his position to "back in "

he is the leading sacker on the skins in 20 years he is among-st the the best pass rushers in the game despite getting 100-120 less rush opportunities then his peers

his sacks , hits, pressures has led the team just about every year he has been on the team

you asked if i would pay 25 mil for him and kerrigan ? hell yes i would for 2 pro bowl players for the next half decade . and yes having them rotate with jenkins /murphy is just fine with me

we have a draft . if we need help in an area we can draft the talent and use our picks like we should

cutting loose rak has nothing to do with talent and everything to do with money . and if that is the case then the defense will be weaker for it

like i said if he go 13-15 sacks people would still want to low ball him

for some reason having a high character , home drafted and developed player who is a pro bowl caliber player isnt good enough for some people

Rak held the upper hand. The Skins could lock up a position without having it be a need early on in the draft. As it turns out Murphy made quite an impression. I'm not a huge Rak fan but I always want him to play great for us. It seems like great is out of the question so I root for improved consistency.

How more consistent does he need to be?? Aside from getting injured and missing 14 games, the guy has been the model of consistent in his production. Has NEVER been an off field or on field distraction, and if he really wanted to be a dick about the whole thing he could have refused to sign his tender until a week before training camp. There are teams who's Gms would sell their left nut and first born for a player like Rak.

He is not consistent at all. He gets his 1st half sack then he disappears for an hour. If you want to call that consistent go ahead. I won't

Who else have we had on our defense that teams game plan to stop?? The mark of a good to great corner is teams DONT throw against him. The mark of a good to great OLB is teams game plan to try and contain him. Rak just being on the field makes opportunities for other players. Now I expect that to change this year because I expect Haslett to let the dogs loose early and often. I will be shocked if Rak is held to less than double digit sacks for any reason other than Injury.
