I don't give a fuck
The option offense has taken over college football. That's why you see more running than passing. I still don't believe the option has been given a fair chance in the NFL. But I do understand how it works. Your team has to be more physical and faster, or its going to be tough to run it. I think we'll see more and more of it with the newer types of QBs playing in college. You're just not gonna find many traditional pocket passers anymore. And the ones that you do find lack the talent level to be an elite QB.
So it will be interesting to see how the option will effect the NFL. I don't think you can call it a gimmick anymore since its completely taken over the college scene, and teams simply cannot shut it down. But I understand why teams don't want to do it. The QB is the most important player on your team, and you simply can't afford for him to get injured, and if you run an option offense, you're going to run him into the ground since he would be the primary ball handler.
I really think Cam Newton can do it. But the Panthers are afraid for his health and won't let him loose. I don't know about you guys, but I saw him dominate the Niners' defense at times when he got to play his game, but then the Panthers went conservative with the playcalling and it caused them to stall in many drives. They have the depth in their backfield to run the option effectively. I'd love to see it. What about you guys?
