Curious what the crew thought of Van Noy for 25th pick for Chargers? My dream scenario of either Martin or Gilbert fLling to me didn't happen. I liked him especially for our 3-4 D and to pair up with Teo.

Honest thoughts?

Very nice pick with Dee Ford. This guy is sky rocketing up draft boards as more people watch some tape on him. Wouldn't surprise me if he is a 1st round pick when draft time actually roles around. Throw in adds a nice pass rush piece to the defense since you couldn't get Clowney in round 1.

Exactly what the Falcons need in real life. Man, if we could have these 2 rounds in real life, like the one in here, I'd be one happy Falcon fan :)

If you can't fix the secondary, fix the pass rush. Teo and that guy they drafted a couple of years back from Illinois are good against the run. They also have a hyrbid LB who can mix it up. A pass rusher couldn't hurt

I like Van Noy as he brings a great deal of versatility. The guy is very good at getting after the quarterback and dropping back in coverage. For a 3-4 defense like the Chargers he will fit perfectly with that defense and keeping teams guessing who is rushing the passer.

We need help at WR. The only reciever we can count on was a rookie this past season. Gates is getting old. Marquise Lee would have been my choice. I know we need some pass rush, so I understand the logic due to the fact so many DB's were taken ahead of your pick. We do have Freeney signed for next season.

IRL, I would expect the Chargers to draft one of the three stud TEs at that spot if the CB/S are off the board

Damn it :gaah: I wanted Hyde pretty bad. If the Dolphins can land Martin and Hyde in the draft, I will be one happy camper

Not if somebody like Lee is on the board. Then it should be BPA.
I'll take your word on that. Philip Rivers always makes his receivers look good regardless of who they are

Our top 2 WR's are Keenan Allen who was a rookie this past season & Vincent Brown. In terms of needs my list is CB/S, WR, OL, OLB. The WR & OL can be swapped depending on the depth of the position in this draft. Weddle is really the only DB the Chargers can rely on.

Interesting. My thoughts were these:

We were 5th in yards per game, and 4th in passing. Yet we were 29th in pass defense.

I wanted one of the top corners, but 3 were picked before me. I actually considered a TE, but both of top 2 were gone and i don't want to waste 1st round pick on 3/4 best te.

Remember, we have Denario Alexander coming back next year. Him and Allen will be a great Duo.

I just figured Van Noy and Teo solidifies our LB core for years to come. Granted he likely may not have gone till early to mid second round.

Not in love with the pick, but made sense in a way.

I understand why you took an OLB, but you also need to take into account the BPA at your pick. If you felt Van Noy would have been available later you could have traded down & added more picks.

That's not really an option in this mock. There are very few trades & everyone after the top 7 picks has been trying to trade back. There are very few takers who are willing to give up fair value.

I think everyone is seeing what the Broncos did and want to emulate it. Everyone now wants 4 big time weapons when in reality you don't need that much. Yes, everyone would love to have what they have, but it just isn't realistic. You can't build a successful team like that. There's no way the Broncos could pay all 4 of them the money they want. They just got lucky because both of the Thomas' and Decker were still on their rookie contract, and Welker is undervalued and they didn't have to overpay.

True but it woulda cost a lot and I think we have 4 major team needs. Honestly WR wasn't one of them for me. I tried to trade up a few times once I saw Gilbert (who I think is heads above every other cb in the draft) was getting close to me - but didn't come through.

Anyone else find it odd that college football was dominated by running the football and playing serviable defense while the NFL was dominated by passing the football and playing great defense?

The two games are different in a lot of ways. The speed of the NFL is simply incredible. The Super Bowl is a testament to that. Seattle looked like they were playing at a faster speed than Denver was, especially on Defense.

College = more teams + less talented players per team
NFL = less teams + more talented players per team

That is the difference. It's easier to run on teams in college because the overall talent level outside of a few teams is mediocre. In the NFL most of the teams are stacked with talent at nearly every position & the coaching in the NFL is for the most part the top of the food chain.
