This is now being reported by several media outlets. If this turns out to be true, Mack's legacy is shot.

I should say it is being reported that he told recruits to look around. Not that it is fact.

Mack got a $2.5 Million payoff and is getting $500k a year as a special Asst. If true, he should be disowned by the University and fired, again.

1) This probably is true. What reason would Bonney have to make this up?

2) I don't give a single fuck.

First, Mack is one of the few coaches who really truly does care about what is best for the kids. That carries with it pros and cons, and we Horns fans have always know that. This is the same coach who will waste scholarships on kids he had previously made a promise to, before signing day, even though something bad happened to them and he knew they would never play football again. In his words: "I offered the scholarship to the young man, not the football player." We applauded him for that.

This is the same coach who would not grey shirt or over sign, because he would not break a promise. We applauded him for that.

This is the same coach who ran one of the cleanest programs in the BCS era, and we applauded him for that.

Now we want to throw him under the buss for taking the same interests in the kids that he always did, and what we always respected him for???

Second, this was probably reported way out of context. Mack recruited these kids. They agreed to play football for him. Now as he is forced to resign he meets with the kids to tell them face to face. Obviously there was a conversation, and if he sensed they didn't feel comfortable - what is he supposed to say? No, you have no choice? Things have changed but you still must stay? Of course not. He tells the kids, hey if you don't feel comfortable then go look around. We hope you come back here, but make the right decision for yourself. Nothing wrong with that.

I have never heard of a single outgoing coach who told the players he recruited that they should look around and that he would call coaches on their behalf.
It's wrong and if true, will cause the University to bar him from future contact. It makes me wonder if he is getting senile.

I bet Lane would do it, but other than that I agree.

If this is true, this should be grounds to officially fire mack and not have to pay his buyout. Its not a huge deal, but it did do serious damage to this recruiting class.

Bullshit, like a previous poster said, he's still getting paid an insane amount of money by the school. Receiving a $2.5M check plus receiving $500K a year to remain a "consultant" to Powers (whatever the hell that means) means you don't encourage incoming recruits to look at other schools. You actually encourage them to stay b/c the incoming coach is awesome, the program is going to compete for NC's with Strong, yadayadayadayada.

Absolutely. It makes sense now why so many have decommitted. DKR, Akers and McWilliams would have never told recruits to start looking elsewhere.

Read the article my take is this kid grossly misunderstood what Mac told him it just doesn't pass the smell test. He probably said something like "take your visits and make the best decision" you know something along the lines of the no pressure soft sale which would fit Mac's personality (or my impression of it anyway).

I would hold off erasing him from the history books just yet.

Actually, if Mack is telling our committed recruits to look elsewhere, then this irritates me even more b/c after having 5 recruits decommit from the '13 class, Mack adopted a new policy that from here on out, if you commit to Texas and then go look at other schools, you no longer have a scholarship:

Mack told this to a group of verbally committed recruits, not just Bonney. There were 17 recruits that took official visits during the Banquet weekend.
