OK, now the team has its HC.....Now what??? There are a lot of posts debating the merits of having staff members in place, but shouldn't the greater question be, Can what once failed now succeed???

We all know that this team (with a couple of exceptions) was in place in Tampa Bay from 2002 to 2008 and didn't really leave its stamp on that team until after (Tony Dungy's) super bowl team won it all. We also know that they all were summarily removed after the 2008 season ( a couple of exceptions here as well) Now that the old gang is together again, there are questions that arise from this reunion.

1. Is Jay the substitute for Jon?

2. Considering the more relaxed rule changes will this system yield success where it failed in 2004-08
seasons?

3. Can we further expect attempts to hire Bill Callahan currently an OL coach, Rod Marinelli currently
a DL coach, and Gus Bradley?

4. What defines Washington football (we've tried Denver and now a Tampa Bay/Cincinnati hybrid)?

5. What is reasonable in terms of expectations this season, next and then a third?

Man, do I totally agree with that. I wonder why we had so much blow back from those who objected to others saying that very thing prior to and during the season? IJS!!!

What's the difference?

Reload.................requires a few pieces to reach competitive/ championship level.

Rebuild............... starts from the ground up with only a few pieces in place.

Okay. I think we are somewhere in between. Defense is a rebuild. Offense is a reload.

We are not getting 4 new OL or 3 new WRs. We might get 2-3 new OL and 1 WR. If these are quality pickups, they will make a world of difference. New, quality OL will make they sub par one around them better. We get one quality WR opposite Garcon, and have Reed back and we will have legitimate receiving threats so they can't just focus on Garcon. If we can get 2 quality OL and 1 quality WR, and I predict and very potent offense. That's not a rebuild.

1st off we arent talking in one offseason we have 2 off seasons to do that

now lets look at our offense

we have one O/lineman who could block an aldon smith , a justin smith , a cliff avril , a wagner . the rest cant

who besides garcon can beat a sherman ? a rogers ?

at TE we have a nice piece in reed but who else ? paulson ? Paul ?

at rb we have morris and helu who are a good team along with young

so if we are to get to seatle/49er level we have work to do on offense

Not sure exactly what you are arguing, but we have 5 pro bowl caliber players on offense out of 11. That does not necessitate a rebuild.

If you add one PB type WR that would make the skill positions more than adequate & then you could focus on O-line. Remember - you are viewing all of this based on a subpar RG3 last season. If RG3 gets his act together & you add just some talent then players like Robinson & Hankerson would be more than adequate at WR. Of course RG3 is the big if in all of this. Who said that you need 4-5 high end WRs - that is not realistic. Also - an upgraded O-line will make the passing game that much better.

I would focus much more attention on adding talent on defense.

Exactly. Look at Seattle to see what a team with a great defense can do. There offense is very similar in talent and capabilities as ours. Their defense is the difference maker. Look at who Seattle has for WRs. There isn't a #1 on the field. Tate was their best this year and he only had 50 or so receptions. Could we use another WR? Absolutely and I would suggest we pick one up in the draft. But our real focus needs to be a new Center and Guard on offense (via FA) and a slew of talent on defense. That is where we need to focus so that our young QB doesn't feel like he has to score every time he touches the ball. We need a D that keeps us in the game as he learns his craft.

i didnt say we needed 3 or 4 high end wrs . we need some adequate ones same with the o/line and a te .

we need capable back-ups not just front line guys

i say go back to the tried and true and fix the LOS on both sides of the ball

OL, definitely. I'm not as convinced our DL is our weak point in our defense. Don't get me wrong, it could be upgraded. Bowen did not play well and may not live up to his contract. Jenkins has been a disappointment for a 2nd round pick. Cofield is a good player, but belongs at DT, not NT. Carriker is probably done,at least we can't count on him. Golsten is the Reed Doughty of the line. Always trying to replace him, but he keeps hanging on. Baker I thought showed flashes of being real good. I hope we can keep him. Nield has never made a difference. But as a group, they seem to do OK.

Our secondary is bad and is made worse by our inconsistent pass rush. Hall had a great year but is now on the wrong side of 30. He may have 2 more years, but I would resign him to a reasonable 2 year deal. Wilson needs to be replaced. We can find better. Amerson has potential. This will be a big year for him. Biggers is no big deal. Let him leave or sign him cheap for depth. Merrieweather is unreliable, but isn't terrible. We will probably keep him for another year. Just only expect 6-10 games out of him due to injury or suspension. We have got to get at least 1 quality starting safety and 1 quality CB. This will give our young guys a chance to rotation in without the pressure of starting.

So my hope is we sign in FA, 1 CB, 1 S, and one NT (assuming we stay in the 3-4), all starters. We move Cofield to a DT and we rotate in Baker, Jenkins and Carriker at the other DT. This will be a good FA year if we can do this. As far as ILB, resign perry and pick up a young ILB with the 3rd round pick. There should still be a couple of good ones left.
