Jon Gruden on Glennon (Gruden spent more than four hours with Glennon at Gruden’s QB Camp in the spring and, prior to that, spent a lot of time preparing for the session by watching college tape)...

"There are some things he did better than anyone else in college football last year," Gruden said. "Specifically, he can flat-out drive the football. The guy can absolutely hum it. Glennon can throw the ball to the wide side of the field effortlessly. In college, with the wider hashmarks, when you throw the ball to the wide side of the field, it's a big-time throw. In fact, there are some programs that don't even attempt it -- they don't even bother asking a QB to attempt a wide-side throw down the field. That's not the case with Glennon."

"This guy can make some really difficult down-the-field throws. If you watch the camp session with Glennon, you'll see we went through a "Fox Two XY Hook." I coached that pattern for 18 years. I'm not sure I've ever seen a QB at any level throw it with the ease Glennon can. Brett Favre threw a certain second-reaction post, by my count, about four times in his (entire) career. I saw Glennon throw it four times last season."

on who Glennon compares to:
"If you want a recent comparison, I don't think the similarities to Joe Flacco are unfair," Gruden said. "They're both (about) 6-foot-6, they both have really nice throwing motions and they both have a nice, compact stroke that just looks effortless. If you watch end-zone film of Flacco, there are times when you go, 'Wow!' when he snaps one off. I found myself saying the same with Glennon a few times."

Greg Peshek of Second Round Stats:

"You could make the case that Glennon is the most NFL ready quarterback (of the 2013 Draft class). He threw the NFL route tree far more often than the other QBs and has done the more ‘difficult’ things in college. ... He has the experience and ability to translate his skills into an NFL offense quickly."

Doesnt matter cause the choice for coach was terrible to begin with. Freeman has really gone down hill since he took over.

Also on a side note Doug Martin is definitely a sell candidate in Fantasy Football

the Big Three of the QB Class of 2013 have taken over

Mike Glennon (#73 overall) was the third quarterback taken in the 2013 Draft behind E. J. Manuel (#16 overall) and Geno Smith (#39 overall). After those Three, it was Matt Barkley (#98 overall), Ryan Nassib (#110 overall), Tyler Wilson (#112 overall), and Landry Jones (#115 overall). Those were the only QBs to go in the Top 200 in 2013.

ex-NFL scout Russ Lande on Jan 20, 2013:
"As I spoke to NFL personnel people in recent weeks, many told me that on film Glennon reminds them of Falcons’ QB Matt Ryan when he was at Boston College.... With a cannon arm and flashes of excellent accuracy, Glennon’s upside is what has many NFL teams excited."

Brandon Worley:
"At 6'7 and 225 pounds, Glennon is the prototype for the quintessential pocket passer in the NFL. He's tall and strong in the pocket and has an over-the-top release that allows him clear throwing lanes without danger of getting the ball batted down at the line of scrimmage."

Rotoworld:
"the Bucs have made the bold move of giving Glennon the keys to the car. Barring an injury, the rookie projects to start the rest of the year. The strong-armed, 6'7/225 Glennon is an ideal fit for OC Mike Sullivan's vertical scheme."

Big ACC fan also.

Most of this is true but what they are not telling you is that Glennon was woefully inconsistent at NC State. He's got the right size and build but he couldn't be depended upon to deliver the wins. He did beat FSU but lost to Tennessee.

There were high hopes for him bringing NC State to ACC title contention. The best he ever did was 8-4, I think.

I heard Mike Glennon used to date Kate Middleton.

LOL You're coming up with some interesting tidbits that are (peripherally) relevant to the discussion!

It only took the Bucs 4+ seasons to finally see all of Josh Freeman's limitations. I tried to tell Bucs fans when he was drafted that he was already close to his talent ceiling and he would never develop into anything more than a decent backup. He's not accurate enough, he doesn't read defenses well enough and most of all he just doesn't have the demeanor, the disposition of an NFL QB. I mean Schiano didn't believe in him and the brass wouldn't give him an extension because of it. He was going to have to prove himself this season, show the Bucs what he was about. It's the kind of pressure that separates men and mice. So what does Freeman do? He misses his camp for kids, misses the team photo, is late for or misses other functions and most of all has smelled like a yak ass sandwich on the field. People like to say not to play certain youngins too early because you may ruin them and I always say if adversity ruins a player then he was ruined already. The pressure got Freeman benched. Freeman was Raheem Morris' guy. I still have to believe that the Bucs only drafted Freeman because Coach Chest Bump was at KSU when he got there and Bump thought that he knew what he was getting. Now they finally get it. Freeman has a future in the NFL but anyone who brings him in to start might as well just give me that money to spend. I can waste it better!!!

As far as Mike Glennon, it looks like only one person on this thread even knows who the hell he is. Of course that doesn't mean he can't play but from what I've seen he is no where near ready to start in the NFL. He's Schiano's guy though and this kid is going to make or break his NFL career. I've seen enough to believe that Schiano has no shot at being a successful HC in the NFL. Hell, his college career you could question whether it was actually successful. I mean he never actually won anything. I guess he got New York to care about Rutgers for a few weeks, that's an accomplishment! But I'm thinking it might be time to start watching for college openings (Texas?). Personally if the Glazers could be fired it should start with them and work your way down to Mark Dominik, Schiano, Freeman, several players including that whiner Darrelle Revis (I gave him a year before he whined about something, it took 2 weeks), and even the waterboy. Scrap this whole damn thing because it seems to be on the verge of Lions dysfunction.

At the end of the day though I listened to the local morons on the radio talking about how good this team will be. How they are built to win now. How this is the most talent since the Superbowl. How anything less than the playoffs will be a huge disappointment. I listened to that non-sense all summer and I still can't understand what they thought they saw. This team started hot last year and completely fell apart at the end. Its like people just remembered the 6-4 start and completely forget the 1-5 implosion, the most recent memories. Plugging a few holes, even with very talented guys, doesn't make an awful team good. So the last few weeks of sports talk has been hilfuckingarious listening to these guys smack on magpie. And the last 3 weeks altogether wasn't as entertaining as the talk of the Monchhichi getting benched today!!

here's how Glennon compares to two other starting NFL QBs that recently came out of the ACC:

Mike Glennon
Senior -- (13 games) 4,031 yards (310.1 ypg), 31 TD, 17 INT
Junior -- (13 games) 3,054 yards (234.9 ypg), 31 TD, 12 INT

EJ Manuel, FSU (taken #16 overall in 2013 Draft)
Senior -- (14 games) 3,392 yards (242.3 ypg), 23 TD, 10 INT
Junior -- (12 games) 2,666 yards (222.2 ypg), 18 TD, 8 INT

Christian Ponder, FSU (taken #12 overall in 2011 Draft)
Senior -- (12 games) 2,044 yards (170.3 ypg), 20 TD, 8 INT
Junior -- (9 games) 2,718 yards (302.0 ypg), 14 TD, 7 INT
Soph. -- (13 games) 2,006 yards (154.3 ypg), 14 TD, 13 INT

this is how the three compare over their last two seasons (junior and senior years):
Glennon -- (26 games) 7,085 yards (272.5 ypg), 62 TD, 29 INT (one INT per 2.13 TD)
Manuel -- (26 games) 6,058 yards (233.0 ypg), 41 TD, 18 INT (one INT per 2.27 TD)
Ponder -- (21 games) 4,762 yards (226.8 ypg), 34 TD, 15 INT (one INT per 2.27 TD)

I don't think Glennon has the franchise QB "look".

The guy was a pro bowler a couple of years ago wasn't he?

I agree he has acted like a kid at times, and didn't man up in the face of having to prove himself, but he's played okay in the games vs ATL and was lighting the NYG up LY, until their DEF blew the game. He's been a 60%+ completion guy so I think he can play...I think the most telling part of your post was about Schiano not believing in him. I think Freeman will outlast Schiano in the NFL.

Freeman was only above 60% two of his five years, the rest of the time his best was 54.8%. And of his two 60%+ seasons, he threw 16 TD to 22 INT in one of them. In the other one, he had his only good season as a pro (his "Pro Bowl" season) when he only passed for 215.7 yards per game but finished #4 in the NFC in passer rating. Freeman was named an alternate to the Pro Bowl that year in case Vick, Brees or Ryan weren't available, but they were all available. Should Freeman have been an alternate ahead of Rodgers or Eli Manning that year? Eli was #2 in the NFC behind Brees in both passing yds (4, 002) and TDs (31) that year. Rodgers was #1 in the NFC in passer rating and yards/att, #2 in the NFC behind Brees in completion pct and #3 in the NFC in TDs behind Brees and Eli

and this is supposed to surprise anyone?

a Hall of Fame QB said a month ago that Glennon would beat out Freeman as soon as he learned the playbook:

August 20th, 2013

NFL legend Fran Tarkenton (HOF, 9-time Pro Bowl QB) doesn’t think Bucs QB Josh Freeman is any good at quarterback.
...
Mr. Tarkenton let his feelings known during an interview Tuesday on WDAE Radio in Tampa .

“He plays sometimes at a nice level,” Tarkenton said. “I’ve watched him a lot. He just plays God awful. That’s who you are … It’s just a player being able to play or not play. Josh Freeman has proven to me that he can’t play.”
...
“They’ve had him there for four years ...He’s not going to get magical and all of the sudden in the fifth year be (a good QB). They want (rookie QB Mike Glennon) to be able to play. The only thing that will keep him from playing is if he’s not able to learn the system and make plays.’’

Thanks for that stats...just watching the kid play from the beginning, I thought he was an NFL talent that had no real weapons early because the Glazers wouldn't spend any money...interesting his fall off came on Schiano's watch, with better weapons.

As bad as Freeman may have been, Glennon isn't the answer, not this season...be ready for a top 5 pick if he plays the reason of the season.

I'm still not sure why he made a probowl but yeah, he was. Lot's of guys have good plays, good games, even good seasons but aren't really cut out for the job. I agree that Freeman will outlast Schiano in the NFL but Freeman's days as the guy for a team is over.

There is no time like the present for Glennon. I certainly don't think he's ready to win games but losing won't be all bad. You get to see what you have in Glennon and if he fails miserably you get a high draft pick to get a QB. After you clean out the front office and replace them with some sort of competence, of course.

Freeman was pretty good his 2nd year. Showed a lot of promise and potential to be great, but hasn't been as good since.
