With the two game losing streak to the Orioles the Red Sox magic number still remains at 3... With a Wild Card spot pretty much a guarantee already... Which is still getting into the Post Season

So the question is: Do you prefer your team actually WINNING in order to getting into the Post Season (Division winner, wild card) OR do you not care as long as a team gets in? Meaning your team doesn't have to win games and they let other teams lose?

I prefer my team to actually win and clinch by getting the magic number that way instead.

What say you?

I don't like anyone "backing" into the post season.

"You play to win the game!"

It's always better if they win, but I wouldn't consider it backing into the post season if they clinch by the other team losing. The team must have already won a lot of games over the course of the entire season to put themselves in that position.

Bingo. April-May games count as 1 win, just as September games do. It certainly is more fun to see your team clinch with a win, though. I'd love to see the Tigers clinch the ALC with a win in their last home game on Sunday, but won't be disappointed if they "back in" with a Cleveland loss on Tuesday.

This is a better football question than baseball question... baseball there is 162 games of course you are going to lose a lot of games...

In terms of a celebration, you'd probably want to have won the game on the day you clinched. Scoreboard watching is sometimes inevitable if you magic number is 2 and you'r game ends first...

In terms of clinching in general, it shouldn't matter. As mentioned, the season is a grind.

That's a good way to look at it. Did not think of it like that. I still would rather my team win the games instead of having others lose... But that's just me
