Id agree but that draft was full of landmines so we could have busted with any number of bad moves.

We could have had B J Raji.

Rick Mirer (2nd overall pick) Respectable rookie season, then went to utter shit for 3 others. His only positive legacy was we used the pick we got for him in a trade to draft Walter Jones.

Dan McGwire (16th) Story goes we could of taken Brett Farve who our coach Chuck Knox wanted, but our GM at the time Tom Flores overrode that. Total bust and we were already looking for another QB two years later.

Aaron Curry (4th) Total bust at the NFL level.

Brian Bosworth (1st pick in 1987 supplemental) Poster boy for roid abuse and what happens once you stop taking them after signing for that big paycheck.

That brings us to 1982 and Kenneth "Game Day" Sims. This defensive end was drafted by the New England Patriots and lasted in the pros for 8 years. In those eight years he amassed and impressive total of 17 sacks. No, I didn't miss a digit...he has exactly 17 more sacks than I do. He earned his nickname when he was questioned why he showed such a disinterest in practice to which he replied, "I'll be there on game day." To be that cocky and never live up to it has earned him recognition as having an award named after him that future players can strive to underachieve.

Well you had some of the worst drafters in the world back to back. Martz was terrible Trung Candidate really and then you kept taking DTs Jimmy Kennedy right before Ty Warren, Damione Lewis right before Marcus Stroud Adam Archuleta right before Nate Clements, Ryan Pickett then the next 3 selections were Reggie Wayne, Todd Heap and Drew Brees. Then of course there is Tye Hill and Carriker under Linehan.

I doubt any team (maybe the Lions, Bengals or Browns) had as many 1st round busts in a row like Tampa.

1989 - 6th Overall Pick - Broderick Thomas
1990 - 4th Overall Pick - Keith McCants
1991 - 7th Overall Pick - Charles McRae
1992 - No 1st Traded for Chris Chandler
1993 - 6th Overall - Eric Curry

That is how you kill a team. Luckily the Bucs next 3 1st round picks helped turn the Bucs into Winners and eventually win a Super Bowl.

1994 - Trent Dilfer - Pro Bowl, Super Bowl
1995 - Warren Sapp - Pro Bowl, MVP, Super Bowl, Hall Of Fame '13
1995 - Derrick Brooks - Pro Bowl, MVP, Super Bowl, Hall Of Fame '14

Really? I would list all your 1st round CBs since 2000 before him. Fletcher and Allen were worse pick IMO.

True I suppose. The Ginn pick was just dumb as all hell though*, so maybe I'm biased against it.

*Not that Brady Quinn has done any better, but they should have picked him instead, and Ginn would probably have still been there in round 2 to be picked instead of John Beck.

Ranms

2000 - 31st overall Trung Canidate
2001 - 12th overall Damione Lewis
20th overall Adam Archuleta
29th overall Ryan Pickett
2002 - 31st overall Robert Thomas
2003 - 12th overall Jimmy Kennedy
2004 - 24th overall Steven Jackson
2005 - 19th overall Alex Barron
2006 - 15th overall Tye Hill
2007 - 13th overall Adam Carriker
2008 - 2nd overall Chris Long
2009 - 2nd overall Jason Smith

Maybe not as bad as a decade of Tampa Bay picks but it is one way to take a Super Bowl Winning Team and make it one of the worst teams in the NFL all in a few years.

I'd go with Dwayne Jarrett - I think he was a 2nd rounder out of USC. In 4 years he caught 35 passes for less than 450 yards and 1 TD. When the press interviewed him about the TD (in his 3rd season) Steve Smith told him to go read a playbook. At least Jeff Otah was a monster when he played, so I won't say him.

Most recent is by far Glass-I Dowling. He redefines the meaning of bust!

We had a solid streak of busts, scrubs, and role players.

1997 - Reinard Wilson
1998 - Takeo Spikes
1999 - Akili Smith
2000 - Peter Warrick
2001 - Justin Smith
2002- Levi Jones
2003 - Carson Palmer
2004 - Chris Perry
2005 - David Pollack

Easily Vernon Gholston. 6th overall pick and did absolutely nothing. The way he played it made you wonder how he was even drafted, let alone drafted 6th overall.

Good timing. Ours just retired (as if he was ever not retired on the field)

Aaron Curry - What a complete waste

1. Andre Jobnson, PSU, 1996, got injured never played a down
2. Heath Shuler, Tennessee, 1994, ugh....
3. Rod Gardner, Clemson, 2001
4. Patrick Ramsey, Tulane, 2002
5. LaRon Landry, 2007, may be the worst football player people think is good ever

Jason Smith gets all the attention for Rams busts but he was a starter for 3 years and he was at least decent in his 1st year. I didn't want him either for similar reasons to those already given. That said I would have picked Sanchez - not because I thought he was great but because he was more likely to be better value for money. I preferred Monroe and Andre Smith to Jason Smith. I didn't think Curry would bust but a LB wasn't worth #2 money. Overall Lawrence Phillips did less and gets my vote. I could probably mention Bill Hawkins, you all remember him don't you. I'd better mention Mike Schad before my brother does.

Recently it's either Justin Harrell in 2007 or Brian Brohm in 2008. Harrell probably could have been a decent player but his entire career was a long string of injuries and he never really could get on the field. Brohm wasn't a 1st round pick but he was just absolutely terrible.

Not that it was their fault for getting injured, but do you remember when the Colts took Emtman and Coryatt with the first and second picks in the draft? Probably go with Hughes next.

Almost the entire Jerry Angelo era of draft picking in the first round.
