Nick Barnett has not signed with the #Redskins, at least not yet, source says. He's coming in for physical/interview, but that's it for now.

I would prefer this signing over Mays. This would make more sense.

Fall back plan. I get the feeling they would have preferred the younger Mays. But at this point, if its going to be a depth issue, beggers cant be choosers.

He's definitely on the decline. But even with that, he's much better in coverage than Mays.

For a one year stop gap as depth, I'd rather have Barnett. One year deal. Then address the position long term next season.

Difference between the two is, had we signed Mays.. we might have needed a starting ILB next year if LFB retires.

Bringing in Barnett, we almost have no choice but to address the position next off season.

Since when has Mays shown any hint of being a guy who would be considered a long term replacement for Fletcher or a long terms starter though?

Either way we'd be addressing the position next year.

Who said Mays would be a long term option. I said him being signed wouldnt FORCE the team to have to address the position next year. Meaning that we wont go into free agency with the mindset that we have got to find an ILB. Barnett is a one year player most likely. Mays could have likely signed a three year deal and at worst would have given us depth not only this year, but next year as well. Barnett doesnt give us that past this year.

I will ask you this Warpath... if Barnett is that much better, why would our coaching staff go after Mays first?? give me your honest opinion as to why we would go after the lesser player first in your opinion? Barnett is the fall back plan.

Easy question to answer, Shanahan has a history with Mays. It certainly wasn't because Mays has proven to be a better player than Barnett.

What History?? Mays was drafted by the Eagles in 2008 and spent the year on their practice squad. Shanahan was fired by Denver at the end of that year. Mays didnt go to Denver until 2010 which is Shanahans first year in DC.

So that dog dont hunt. Maybe it was because Mays is younger and wasnt considered a one year stopgap, even for depth.
