Not a bad move for the Celtics. They were looking for a cheap coach while they rebuild.

Just wow. He's a little boy in a man's sport. FAIL

Meh. At least ownership had the foresight to get rid of guys like Paul Pierce and KG. Them on the team would have made it even more impossible than just dealing with a guy like Rondo.

If Rondo stays on the Celtics and isnt traded Stevens will wish he was back at Butler.

After the first week, he'll give all the money back and beg to coach Butler for free. He knows he's not qualified for this already. He's qualified to coach boys, not men.

Nice move by the Celts, a team now in developmental mode, but with a nice mix of youth and vets. Given the current makeup of the East, I can see the Celtics getting into the playoffs, despite the loss of the aged Pierce and Garnett. The reported 6-year contract is a stretch, but it gives Stevens some reassurance at least, but with the Celtics likely having options in the latter 2 years. A very good hire by Ainge......

This pretty much says that they are playing for the future.

Rondo, you are the next to go.

Surprising move for sure. He's a smart guy so I think its worth giving him a try. And its definitely a no lose for Stevens. Even if he flames out in 2 to 3 years, he can go right back to college and get a top job

I like bringing in new blood rather than rehashing the same old tired Dunleavys, Browns, Dantonis, and Karls of the world.

There is very low risk and high reward.

Boston is already rebuilding.

there is no need to bring in a high priced retread coach for a youth rebuild era.

I like the hire.

I'm kinda in between. On one hand he's a players coach, young, and is exactly What Ainge wants to rebuild this franchise. On the other hand, has Brad Stevens ever really had to deal with a top recruit with somewhat of an ego. I mean it's Butler. Most of the recruits that go there aren't top tier players coming out of HS.

He will fail in the NBA. Dumb move by the Celtics.
I do not agree. I've been following the Celtics since moving to Boston in Dave Cowens' rookie year, 1973.

The Celtics were getting old and had a coach overly reluctant to give floor time to non-vets. :gaah:

They now have mostly players with their primes still ahead of them and a coach
who has shown he knows how to get the most of young guys. That is real progress,
even if nostalgia may make some think otherwise.

They will probably be better in the 2nd half of the season when they've gotten
familiar with each other, so the 1st 41 games might require patience on the part of Cs fans,
but so what?

He may not have any egos in Boston either if the C's blow it all up.

I think this is a fine move. The C's are gambling on an in experienced coach, but they really have nothing to lose. If he proves to be effective, they will keep him around. If not, they find someone new when they are ready to win again.

This is an incredible reach. Will they dump everybody older than him and dump the season for seasoning younger players?
