why would you be excited about a 20 team conference?
Who said I was excited about it.

So much for all that unc and virginia to the B1G.
I was hoping UVA would go to the B1G. Damnit I miss Jefferson sports. When the hell is the ACC gonna get its own channel.
I read somewhere, maybe this thread, that they're suppose to be negotiating something with espn. A 24 hour ACC channel modeled after the B1G.
This would be nice. I live within 10 miles of both EMU and scUM now. Unless the ACC has a national game I do not get to see much of their games anymore.
There's a correlation between the GOR and the ACC's push for a 24-hour channel that would mirror the format of the Big Ten, SEC and Pac-12.
The league is evaluating the viability of a channel with ESPN, which is gathering info and will get back to the league soon. From what I'm told, league members are encouraged about those talks so far.
yep. here ya go
This would be nice. Anything is better then a local game from the MAC then 15 hours of coverage of the Michigan game. And finally the Sparty game.
well the big 12 has a gor as well....thats what started all the acc talk.B1G + Iowa St., Kansas, Cincy and UCONN?

Here Lawdawg, here I am. Nothing has been won, and remember one thing, only conference without a grant of right, SEC. But here...you get a trophy. The B1G WILL go to 20, book it son.
Keep in mind that a GOR doesn't necessarily mean a conference is still safe from poaching.
If a 10 member conference such as the Big XII would lose 5 or 6 members (especially the big guns Texas & Oklahoma), the GOR would pretty much be worthless, as the 4 or 5 remaining members would no longer be a viable conference.

If a 10 member conference such as the Big XII would lose 5 or 6 members (especially the big guns Texas & Oklahoma), the GOR would pretty much be worthless, as the 4 or 5 remaining members would no longer be a viable conference.
So...lets play a hypothetical scenario:
First, lets say the B1G goes to 16 members by grabbing Kansas & Oklahoma-----(for the sake of argument, assume the B1G lets the Sooners in despite not being an AAU member because the Oklahoma football pedigree & brand is so stellar).
Next, the door would be open for the PAC to poach the Big XII, and the PAC steps in and takes 3 Big XII schools-----Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and finally BYU.
The five remaining Big XII schools would pretty much know the end of the conference is upon them, so they scramble to get into the ACC & SEC----------The ACC gets West Virginia, and then the ACC leaves the 16th spot open for Notre Dame who will eventually take the spot knowing that the four 16-team super-conference scenario is finally coming to fruition.
Finally, the SEC gets Kansas State & TCU.
This leaves Baylor & Iowa State left without a seat at the table in the four super-conferences, so those two schools eventually wind up in the MWC.
Again, the above scenario is just pretend, and perhaps improbable...however, it should illustrate how even a conference with a GOR in place can still be destroyed.
I actually like the looks of the B1G under the above pretend scenario---all contiguous states---new members in bold:
B1G WEST-----Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Wisconsin
B1G EAST-----Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers
While we're at it, here would be the PAC---contiguous states too:
PAC NORTH-----BYU, Cal, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, Utah, Washington, Washington State
PAC SOUTH-----Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas Tech, UCLA, USC
And the ACC---contiguous states too:
ACC NORTH-----Boston College, Louisville, Notre Dame, Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia
ACC SOUTH-----Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, N. Carolina State, Wake
Finally, the SEC---also contiguous states:
SEC WEST-----Arkansas, Kansas State, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Missouri, TCU, Texas A&M
SEC EAST-----Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt
Those four super-conferences break away from the FBS and form their own 64 team division-----FEBS (Football Elite Bowl Subdivision). The four conference winners become the four playoff teams.

You clearly don't understand the power of the GOR. The only way the BigXII collapses is if schools stop playing sports, or cease to exist. With a GOR the teams simply aren't attractive to any other conference. For a team to depart, the receiving conference would have to be willing to take the team, offer them a share of revenue and get nothing back in return as all the media rights for the school will stay with the remaining teams in the conference.
The GOR isn't anything like an exit fee, which is a contract concept called liquidated damages, and is subject to limitation as we've seen over and over. A GOR is more akin to a transfer of property ... in this case, IP. And these types of assignments are always upheld, absent fraud and other egregious conditions that won't exist here.
Other than a few stragglers like Cincy, UConn, BSU, BYU getting picked up to fill out some of the conferences, we are done for at least the next 10-15 years. In other words, the stragglers my get picked up, but the main 5 conferences are all safe at this point.

Take that, B1G boys! LOL
Where are all of the ACC guys?
There are none that is why teams want to leave the ACC.
