I believe they used that as their primary logo for a bit could be wrong but for the seasons they ran that jersey that's the logo they had up on NHL.com their website and the state vanity plates

And I miss the Whalers. IMO the best, simple NHL logo ever. It's eerie how both teams' history and logo changes mirrored each other.

Both in triangles one has a penguin with a hockey stick one has no penguin a shark coming through broken stick in mouth
