Goodell's new idea for kickoffs

Goodell floats novel idea for replacing kickoffs | ProFootballTalk

Sean Gregory of TIME writes that one of the options being considered for replacing kickoffs entails giving the ball to the team that would have been kicking off at its own 30, automatically facing a fourth down and 15 yards to go. The team can then choose to punt or go for it, via fake punt or otherwise.

I kinda like it. Gives a team a chance to go for a long 4th down instead of an onside kick. The reason it won't ever happen is because then you have no use for a big special teams coverage group.

IDK, not sure about the idea of "1 hour until punt-off". This might be one of those things like the orange baseballs or designated runners Charlie Finlay introduced to MLB - put it in and try it for awhile. Perhaps in select games involving the Jags or Raiders, that wouldn't have impacted the playoffs anyway.
