getting back to the original topic of this thread: the Rangers are looking to bring in another middle infielder which should occur following this road trip with a number of candidates being looked at including Profar. According to Washington: "I've got the outfield covered," Washington said. "I've got first base and third base covered. I need second base and shortstop covered. We have Michael, but we need more than just Michael." this means that one of the pitchers being carried right now gets sent down.

which pitcher is the likely choice? i think it's Scheppers

and what do you think of the idea of Profar probably only seeing the occasional playing time behind Andrus (just named top AL SS by AL managers) and Kinsler?

How about kirkman? Scheppers has been lights out lately.

You won't see Profar until August 31st (if at all), and there probably will be no UTIL guy til then, b/c I think JD is making a point that playing Young at DH with no IF in case of injury is foolishness

If we lose the DH in a game because we have no UTIL IF, then you might hear some further questioning of Wash's "tactics"

Olt or Murphy should be DHing, instead of Young

Back to Profar, by August 31st, the AA season will be for all purposes over, could be when we see him, but not before and probably not at all

looking at what we have available at middle infielder in the minors, do we start the clock on Profar (our #1 prospect) or Leury Garcia (#7) or Oder (#19) or do we use someone like Luis Hernandez or Matt Kata who have ML experience?

Odor, is way too far away from being ready, Matt Kata is not an option at SS, Leury Garcia is probably further away than Profar, but has the benefit of also having played OF, Profar, or Luis Hernandez who wasn't putting up much better numbers than Gonzalez in AAA

Or someone like Mike Fontenot, who plays a decent SS and can at least hit his weight

I don't agree ... Kirkman is the better pitcher. Apparently TEX agreed (along with everyone else in the AL and most of the teams in the NL).
