But things weren't working. They're only just recently getting back on track. At what point does a player taking wins away from his team override this unquantifiable concept of team chemistry?

First, WAR isn't a set in stone "hard" number. It is an approximation. Granted, it is better than "the eye test" but it isn't an end all be all. If so you could automate managerial tasks with Excel spreadsheets.

You would have been hard pressed to sit Mike and not Josh and Nap and many others that were also sucking at the time. Yes, Mike has sucked all year. But in the recent team funk you couldn't point fingers at one player. Benching mike would have attempted to do just that.

i am not apologizing for anything. what hard data have you presented? Wash won't use Olt the way you want him used isn't hard data. Wash won't sit a player because you don't like him isn't hard data.

so they lost 2 WS. in one they ran into a SF pitching staff that was lights out, what would you have done different? the other the bullpen couldn't close out games 6 and 7 when they had St. Louis down to their last strike, what would you have done different?

Are you kidding me? I've posted MY's awful numbers. I've posted Gentry's numbers showing he's an asset to this team both with the glove and the bat after you made that ignorant statement about him being a lifetime sub and his asset not being his bat. You can make a the excuses you want for him and it won't change the facts. Seriously, just stop. You're making a fool of yourself.

I called for josh to be sat a few games to get his head straight, but not with MY filling in at the #3 hole. Just saying.

Yeah, I wouldn't use that one. One thing last year I would have done would be to play my OF at "no doubles" depth. Game over if that is the case.

:pound: just stop Scotty :pound:

I understand. I'm simply saying that you can't blame the recent funk on Young. Likewise, you can't just bench the face of your team for nearly a decade without having locker room issues. If you think the recent funk was an issue, just wait until you have true locker room strife. I think the last two months were due to complacency. That is nothing compared to what a divided locker room can cause.

My point is this is just one aspect of Wash's awful decision making. I'm not saying Young should be benched 7 days a week. But he shouldn't be a 7 day a week player either. I think you could find a way to curb Young's playing time at least some what without ruining the locker room dynamic.

i could have sworn they were at "no doubles" depth but i could be wrong but it looked that way to me. and 41 walks by the pitching staff, a WS record, during the St. Louis series didn't help

As much as I agree, I still think he is going to have to get injured for that to happen. He won't accept any demotion quietly.

True. It wasn't all on one play. But that was a pretty serious mistake.

Neither did starting your scrub catcher in game three "because he's part of this team too, or your primary catch at 1b (not a very good defensive position for him), or not sending your closer back out with a 2 run lead and instead sending out a soft tossing lefty who often walks the first batter to face the 7-8 batters and a pitcher, or not calling for your pitcher (who csn handle the bat well) to slash swing instead of bunt when the third basemen are obviously charging the bunt. I don't think those things helped them in the WS either.

One thing I would have done different is that instead of Darren Oliver it would have been Mike Gonzalez in that 10th Inning in Game 6 of Last Years WS. Has better stuff and had closed before for the Orioles.

And aside from game 3 where everyone was awful, he had been nails and had that fire breathing fast working presence in the mound. But Oliver was Wash's bullpen version of MY. JD saw this and let him walk. Good call by JD.

How many more mistakes from last years WS do you want us to point out Scotty? Want me to go back to 2010? How bout starting Vlad in game 1 in rf in San Francisco?

That's the best you can come up with after I've owned you in every statement you've made? What a cop out. Seriously, if you can't handle differing opinions when you get proven wrong over and over again maybe you shouldn't talk with the adults.

I don't expect my opinions to effect change in the team here, but I still have a right to voice my opinions. Especially when they're backed by facts and numbers (of which you've offered almost none). If all I accomplish is exposing the stupidity of your Wash apologist statements when you lambast me for voicing my opinion and backing it up then that's good enough for me. Just because my posts don't effect change necessarily doesn't mean I'm wrong.

Changing the subject a little,

One guy I think you might see sooner than later is Leury Garcia,

Has played SS and CF in the minors (2 of the hardest), among others, and is extremely versatile

Has a good bat, not much power, but could be the future UTIL IF/OF type

Would you get off the record? A trained monkey could manage this team to a winning record with this amount of talent.

Tell that to Boston.
They had the talent....but they quit on their manager last season.

getting back to the original topic of this thread: the Rangers are looking to bring in another middle infielder which should occur following this road trip with a number of candidates being looked at including Profar. According to Washington: "I've got the outfield covered," Washington said. "I've got first base and third base covered. I need second base and shortstop covered. We have Michael, but we need more than just Michael." this means that one of the pitchers being carried right now gets sent down.

which pitcher is the likely choice? i think it's Scheppers

and what do you think of the idea of Profar probably only seeing the occasional playing time behind Andrus (just named top AL SS by AL managers) and Kinsler?

Romeo is right young should be benched period. Gentry has a 2.7 WAR in limited time better than curtis granderson who has a 1.5 WAR
