Ehh.... Judge's OPS is .300 higher than Cal's; he's the best player on the best team in the AL. He would be the MVP front-runner, regardless of which team he or anyone else was on.Second? Hell, does Judge do all of the non-offense related stuff that Cal does, that nevertheless has a direct effect on the final outcome of a game?
Cal is your MVP. If he played in a high profile baseball city, there would be no argument
- Defense
- pitch framing
- pitch calling
- setting the team defense for any given pitch
- inspiring confidence in the pitchers
- clubhouse leadership
- building positive relationships with umpires
And if we were rating an MVP strictly on offense, I'd agree with you. Judge is clearly the better offensive player. But sometimes the voters take other qualities into consideration. It's infrequent, but it does happen. And if they took the all around contributions of each player, IMO, Cal would be the MVP. Judge, so far this year, has a -0.2 dWAR. That is likely only going to get worse as he had a -1.6 dWAR over the previous two years combined. Also, the Yankees are only two games ahead of the Mariners. That could change over the weekend for all we know.Ehh.... Judge's OPS is .300 higher than Cal's; he's the best player on the best team in the AL. If we were talking about Cal vs. Bregman, I'd whole-heartedly agree.
I don't think it's possible to have a + dWAR as an RF.And if we were rating an MVP strictly on offense, I'd agree with you. Judge is clearly the better offensive player. Weeeelllll, you're a damn Husky. What do you know.I don't think it's possible to have a + dWAR as an RF.
In spite of Cal having a + dWAR and Judge's being -, Judge is still WAY ahead in overall WAR (~45% ahead of Cal's). It isn't really that close, and, barring injury, it's very unlikely anyone will be close to Judge this year.
Know what all Huskies & Cougs have in common?Weeeelllll, you're a damn Husky. What do you know.![]()
Also, I think you're correct that the relative standings of M's/Yanks will change over the weekend, but I don't think it will be in the direction that we want...And if we were rating an MVP strictly on offense, I'd agree with you. Split is absolutely their ceiling. Sadly I'd guess going 1- 3 on the series is more likely. Hope I'm wrong.oops, we're only 2.5 up, so staying 2.5 up or going to 3.5 up on the Cheaters. Is that be too much to ask?
Not sharp at all. Wasn't sharp in his rehab starts either. He wasn't ready in my opinion, and I thought that before yesterday. Control was way off for him and then he would hang one. Couldn't finish off hitters or innings. So what happened with Kirby? Just not sharp, overhyped so he was tired. Obviously I didn’t see it but can’t tell a lot from box scores
Heaven help us.
