I think stathead is including the no-nos with the one and two hitters

It wasn’t StatHead, it was me not setting the filters right. Like for 1-hitters you have to go >1 &<1 or it will accumulate all the 0-1-2-3, hitters

Thanks for catching that.

Stieb is very underrated. He probably would have won some Cy Youngs if he wasn't on an expansion team.

He really did get screwed. Led all AL pitchers in WAR 3 consecutive years from 82-84, but the best he could finish in the Cy voting was 4th

WAR has nothing to do with CY, especially before WAR was a thing...

but it is a shame to see that the only reason someone wins an award is because of the team they were on... Checked 1982, and 1984 the CY was not deserving at all... at least the 83 CY was deserving... 84 wasnt THAT bad... but 82 was awful...

It's pretty wild seeing a pitcher in the 80's have a near even K/BB ratio (105-102) win a Cy Young as Vuckovich did. Steib had a lower ERA while throwing 64.2 more innings. Same goes for Sutcliffe winning over Gooden with about 68 fewer innings and nearly matching ERA/WHIP. Bedrosian winning in '87 was questionable

Early 80s pitching was pretty blah.

I wouldnt have given stieb the CY in 82 anyway... but Vuckovich winning was an embarrassment... i would have given it to Palmer...

Palmer got the 1973 CY that he didn’t deserve based on his 2.40 ERA which was boosted by Brooks Robinson, Mark Belanger, Bobby Grich and Paul Blair. Nolan Ryan had the record 383 K’s that year becoming the first pitcher to set a triple crown category record and not win the CY Bob Gibson 1.12 ERA & Denny McLain 31-wins(last)both in 1968. Another WTF moment for Ryan fans.

Arguably the best pitcher I've seen in my lifetime.
