I had to get the Browns starting RB before Shane did.

Honestly I wouldn't be shocked, personally.

I had him above both Ohio State boys in my personal rankings

Undrafted Philip Lindsay beat out third round pick Royce Freeman...just sayin'
It’s possible, I guess…I don’t see him beating out Judkins but I could see the share of carries closer than people think. Both are good short yardage RB’s but I am pretty sure I saw Sampson was elite so maybe a GL back or short yardage…

If Chubb signs that will be interesting too.

Boggle my mind- just a year or so ago, RB's are a dime a dozen, don't' need to invest anything in one..now the pendulum is swinging back to the position having real value, but some teams are going overboard stockpiling while others are still stuck in 2+ years ago

Even with a 17-game schedule, only 2 RB averaged more than 20 touches a game. 3 if you round up Kyren's 19.8 touches.
Even more surprising is the dropoff after the top 3.

touches or carries?
touches, it's 5-if you round up Jacobs 19.8 per game- on a 17 game schedule (Kyren averaged 20.5)

But it's not very accurate-
Taylor in games he played, averaged 22.9, but only played in 14- of course if you divide it by 17 it's gonna be ugly
Kyren played in 16 games, his per game average is actually 21.9
Kamara averaged 21.1, but only played in 14
Hubbard averaged 19.5 in 15
MIxon 20 in 14 games
and we know CMAC WOULD'VE

So in reality, its more like 10 guys, who averaged ~20 touches per game, with another 5-7 coming in around 17-18 per game played. Roughly half the league gives it's main RB 17+ touches a game-when they are healthy

If we're only talking carries, yes a massive drop off after Jacobs, regardless of how you divide it up

IDK if i agree.
We play this game every year where we pick 50% of the first 12 RB who will NOT crack the top 12 at the end of the season. It happens every season... the shoulda coulda woulda's.

At the start of each season, i guess we're all "glass half full" prognosticators on the players we like. But the reality is most dont measure up whether its injury, coaching, offense, you name it.

And that's not counting guys like Bucky Irving and Tyrone Tracy whose averages are skewed due to not getting touches early, but getting plenty as the season wore on

well I mean, sure we don't have to agree that going forward those teams continue to give their #1 RB around 20 touches per game..but, I mean the math don't lie from what they did do last year. That's what it was, give or take a few decimal point roundings Call it 9 if you don't want to give me CMAC

yep, outside of the game he got hurt in (week 2, missed 3-5), the game he came back in (wk6), and two meaningless games at the end of the season (16 and 17), they rode him pretty hard in the rest. Don't forget his 2-5 catches in virtually every game as well

So if I use the Browns as an example, Stefanski will be calling plays again. He uses multiple RB’s and quite a bit of 2 TE sets. 2 years ago they averaged 30 rush attempts per game (4th in the NFL).
So unless you have a CLEAR 1st option, getting close to 70% of attempts you aren’t going to clear that 20+ attempts.

So all those guys listed were seeing 70% of the attempts, give or take, and their backup options were mediocre at best. Looking around the league it does seem like backfields have more depth now but that is also factoring in this deep RB class. There be some guys that don’t live up to the hype but some that surprise.

Do the days of RB’s getting 20+ attempts go down or stay around the same? Depending on what happens maybe RB’s value is trending down as far as draft position. Only time will tell…just a thought. I still believe RB1’s still very high until proven wrong

Probably stays the same imo.
We're all gonna have our sleepers that check all the boxes or seem to be in situations that favor a higher ceiling.

But guys will get hurt. They will underperform. They will lose a fumble and lose touches. Someone under them will step up. Coaches will play the hot hand.

Can almost garauntee Barkley will not finish #1. The top guy rarely repeats.
