While its true that time is undefeated, I’m just saying that it’ll be a cold day in hell before anybody old enough to remember and have lived through the glory days of Riggo, Monk, Theisman, et al, will accept commanders as the legit name of the washington football team.

Of course by that time some of the old timers might have taken up residency.

I will never be a fan of the expansion team...Commies. They have over taken the Cowboys as my most hated team. I have always identified with the Name Redskins, with Pride. I couldn't care less about the City of Washington DC or their Commies team.

Well sorry you haven't been along for the ride. It's been a great ride, such an exciting year. I literally can't think of a more exciting season in team history with so many last second victories. They have the most exciting young player in the entire NFL.

No like everyone else I don't like the name. Now it's better than Football Team which I hated but I never liked Commanders. I started the season referring to them as Washington. But as the wins piled up under the name Commanders I gradually began to accept it. Even if I continued to despise the name I would never stop rooting for my team because I don't like the name. That is simply crazy to me as I have posted.

But I totally support a name change and believe that ultimiately happens. Until then I will gladly support my Washington Commanders without hesitation.

I also have to disagree with your last sentence. It was only because the fans didn't stop pushing that we got a new owner. It was the only reason VA politicians refused to work with Dan Snyder on a new stadium, it lead to the commissioner being trotted before Congress and it lead to the 2nd report by Mary Jo White which ultimately forced him to sell. Without the pressure from the fans and victims Daniel Snyder would still own the team and we would have been 6-11.

Our fans have shown the backbone to cause change. This cause however ain't worth the fight for a lot of us.

I remember when the team was sold Magic said there were going to change the name. So why would fans buy Commander gear? Didnt make sense if they were going to change it at the time. Now that the team is WINNING, I think this changes things. People are buying gear. They might keep the Commanders name. I always believed they would change the name and too thought they would do something like this or Red Hawks or whatever. I did not plan on purchasing any Commanders gear. But on Game Day now I wanted to wear the colors when I go to the store. Only I never pulled the trigger on the hat.

Like you I am now kind of 50/50. If a guy like me can get intersted in gear I'm sure I'm not alone. I'm proud as Hell of this team and want to represent when I go out of town this summer. The name Commanders is now associated with Jayden Daniels and young people across the country are wearing Daniels/Commanders gear. The name change, it if happens, will be years away so plenty of time to put the hat to use.

if it were just a name as DGF suggests then why change it to begin with ? that philosophy is simply bending the knee and i am not bending the knee to the word police . now no one has to take a stand about names etc and they can decide what hill they want to make a stand on

Man…I actually liked WFT. It was my third favorite idea.

I think we all still cheer for them but most still call them the Redskins. I refuse to refer to them as the Commanders.

Dan sold the team because he got 6 billion.

He had planned on giving it to his children. It was only because of public pressure that Josh Harris is the owner of the team now. At that point Snyder was simply trying to maximize his profit.

Football Team was not a good name. It's not even a name it's a descriptor. If Dodge introduced a new model and called it Car would you consider that a good name? Is Hotel a good name for a new beachfront resort?

If you are going to thumb your nose at Commanders why promote Football Team? It was literally what they chose to replace Redskins because as always they were caught with their pants down and not prepared for the possibility of a forced name change.
