Class of 2020 looks pretty solid. Class of 2024 could end up being equal or better. Only time will tell.

Lawrence is a clear QB1. He's just not a top 10 QB who is being paid like a top 10 QB.
Lawrence gets a little bit too much hate I think, he’s not terrible, he just hasn’t played anywhere close to the very high expectations that were on him. He’s with a bad franchise as well. I think he can be a decent starter. I wouldn’t label him a bust like the others from that class.

I'm seeing 2024 class closer to 2021 than 2020. Maye will be considered the best of his class within 5 years. Daniels is above average and everyone else is mid at best.

Lawrence gets a pass for some reason with many fans. It's almost like other great college superstars QB's were drafted to good teams.

Lawrence came into the NFL with awful throwing mechanics and onto a team with hugely overrated receivers. His rookie HC had many flaws but he at least gave Lawrence a rookie QB friendly scheme to play in. Those issues were addressed before his 2nd season. Lawrence has had a more than fair chance to show his worth. He's good enough, but not great.

I don't think that's the case anymore. I gave him a pass because of Urban as his coach for his rookie season.

Trevor got gradually better, but completely regressed the last year and a half. He's a hard luck story on the field, but Shad was dumb enough to give him a contract early and Goldilocks is laughing all the way to the bank.

Still a lot of question marks for every one of these guys. Yeah, 2020 looks great but every guy overpaid relative to real accomplishments. Hurts and Burrow got to the SB but Burrow's injury issues have been a red flag and Hurts has only really had one great year. Too many turnovers but seems to be playing much cleaner and better now that he has Saquon back there. The rest still have a lot to prove, imo. As for Trevor, just way too much hype and has been a disappointment relative to expectations. No passes though. Obviously a crappy organization but he doesn't move the needle. The rest of 2021 class obviously should have been day 3 picks anyway. GMs reaching for mediocrity very common these days, it seems.

The problem with Lawrence is his play does not come close to matching the contract and that is a death sentence for a franchise. You are better off with a low end starter at a lower cap hit. So yeah he deserves the hate IMO, it comes with the big bucks.

Lawrence should not have played hurt last year. No upside and his play was worse for it.

He also struggled to start the year, but last few weeks you are seeing signs of his game getting to where it is supposed to be. Still not top 10, but clear qb1 level.

Nix is mid?

Have you seen his play as the season progresses?

And that is without much of a running game.

Yeah Bo Nix has improved a lot as the season has gone on, he’s solid. Daniels is good, and I think Maye and Caleb Williams will be good - Williams is kind of in a bad situation I feel and needs a new coach and Maye is just on a weak team but has been okay. Penix and McCarthy haven’t started so who knows how they’ll be but I think Penix will be a good QB for my Falcons. This year’s QB class will be good IMO.

Yeah, hard telling about McCarthy.

He looked good the 1 game ge played in preseason, but who knows.

This class could be as special as ‘84 if the players pan out.

Agreed, if Penix and McCarthy turn out good and Caleb improves this could be a really special class

It's amazing to me how many people just don't understand reality. If you believe you have somebody that can play QB you have no choice but to ante up for the 2nd contract, if you don't you're giving away a franchise QB without compensation? If it doesn't pan out you're hung out to dry for 2 or 3 seasons max, if you don't give them a good extension you end up like the Cowboys with a 70m cap hit with Dax next season and whatever it is after that. If you just take injury issues out of the equation you don't really have too much of a choice if the guy you have appears to have real upside in year 4. Look at it this way, how stupid would the Browns look if next year Baker puts it all together and leads Tampa to the obelisk. I know it's not likely, but they hamstrung themselves with Watson after kicking Baker to the curb and compounded it with that contract. What do they have now? So yes, we can all talk about how smart we are in hindsight and the world is unicorns and cotton candy. It's really not that easy to make those decisions, because you don't get to say, "damn I missed that one but I'll get the next one right", because you don't get a 2nd chance if you're the guy making the actual decision.

I agree that teams really don't have a choice but to extend these kids. I'm just not a fan of the outrageous numbers involved. As for taking injury issues out of the equation, I'm not sure you can do that. Tua is a ticking time bomb at this point. For a guy that's just solid but nothing special (basically mid), how is that not a consideration? And he's getting paid elite QB money.
