All bullshit aside, I got a talking to a few years back for checking the score while in a patients room.

The patient didn’t complain.

The family didn’t complain.

One of my coworkers did because the patient kept asking for the fun nurse that’s a Clippers fan whenever her sour puss ass was on shift.

Yeah, it’s kinda frowned upon to ask a patient to pause dying long enough for me to see how big of a lead the Clippers will blow in the 4th quarter.

When I worked the dialysis unit, I had hours to look at my phone and still monitor a patient.


Trauma is very different.

Sometimes I don’t post for damn near a week.

I lost way more patients due to renal failure.

So, trauma was more of an adjacent move.

I’d like to say I have become desensitized.

I have not.

You just save who you can, cry it out about the ones you can’t.
