For starters, I'm laughing at you trying to flex over stats you ran up on Western Illinois and New Mexico St.

Hell, I've been downplaying USC because their games were against Rice and Stanford.

And here you are trying to brag.

I'm not bragging solely because of the stats from two games.

these are mostly the same players, and this year, the same OC, that went 11-2 in 2019, and who ranked #3 in total defense AT THE END OF LAST SEASON!!!

Combined the offensive starters have been playing college football for 56 seasons.

Combined stats from 2019, 2020, 2021 and the 2 games from 2022, has Minnesota ranked Top Ten in 9 different defensive stats, including the big one, total defense. So it's not just these last 2 games that show UMn's defense AND offense should be highly regarded.

NMSU almost won 2 of their games, and are ranked Top 20 in pass defense.

USC doesn't even crack the Top 30 in one of those defensive categories, only cracks the Top 50 in one, and can't even rank Top 100 in all 4, much less Top 5. And playing against chumps like Rice and Stanford?

I didn't come in here flexing about wins over WIU or NMSU, I merely threw a wet blanket over the USC fan talking about competing with the OSU's of the world, skipping over the schools in the pac they have struggled to beat lately, and the teams in the B1G who they'll have to beat first before getting a shot at beating a school like OSU.

Then you laughed at my team, and I thought that was hilarious seeing as it was YOUR team that went 4-8 last year and can't crack the Top 100 in rushing defense. My Gophers would get 300 yards rushing on USC right now with it's 2nd stringers playing a third of the game.

I mentioned the possibility of USC meeting up with Minnesota in a bowl game, in response to comments about USC possibly struggling against a team that is good at controlling the clock and keeping USC's offense off the field, seeing as UMn is ranked #1 in TOP and was ranked Top 10 in TOP at the end of last year, so NO, it's not just because of who we've played so far this year, but honestly I was just being nice, because no way on earth will USC do good enough to get into the same bowl game as the Gophers, but if they do, that would suck for all of you, because you could just chalk that up as another loss.

Gophers lost their top 4 RBs last year, 2 in/after game 1, 3rd stringer in game 5, 4th stringer in game 6, yet we still won 9 games, what the hell is USC's excuse, I mean, JUST FOUR WINS???

Hard to know what to think of the defense right now.

On one hand, they are doing a fantastic job creating turnovers. Grinch said that he wants a minimum of 24 turnovers this year and they're on pace for 48.

Against Rice, they pitched a shutout in the 2nd half and against Stanford, after giving up a couple of early touchdowns, Stanford didn't score again until the 4th quarter when USC was up 41-14 and was on cruise control. There were quite a few legit stops in there.

Having said that, of the 8 turnovers they've forced, 3 or 4 have come in the red zone on drives where the defense was getting gashed. Makes you wonder what the games may have looked like if the defense doesn't get those turnovers.

Also, to be fair to the defense, as I mentioned upthread, Stanford secretly installed an offense that no one really uses, so USC had prepared for a different offense than they were playing against.

That's what concerns me. You can't count on turnovers, but I like the ball hawking. I think this team could play with anyone not named Alabama or Georgia.

They have to worry about the Utahs, Oregons, Oregon Sts, UCLAs & ASUs and then the Minnesotas, Wisconsins and Iowas first before worrying about the big boys. If better recruiting always resulted in a better team Nebraska would have won the West Division every year since they joined and Wisconsin would never have won, much less NW, and now if Minnesota wins this year, it won't be because of their having the best recruiting classes. Stanford sucked last year, outside of their upset over Oregon they were one of the worst teams in the Pac last year and only not the worst because winless Arizona was arguably the worst in all of the P5, and Rice is also not very good, what they've won like 4 games in the last 3 years or something like that?

I doubt you will be as bad as you were last year, with only the aforementioned Stanford and Arizona being worse than you all, although you all lost to Stanford, lol. Even Colorado somehow matched you all in # of wins.

So I'd temper your excitement until you actually win a single game of note. But hey, it's America, do whatever you want, lol.

I'm actually fine with your excitement, until one of your fellow fans laughs at my team, a team that's put the 13th most players into the NFL since 2020. Not sure if that includes those 2019 guys or not, pretty sure it does, 2019 players get drafted in the 2020 draft, so yeah, last 3 drafts.
