While I am for national healthcare and free college(4 years) at public institutions, I can't support this debt forgiveness.

Doesn't solve the problem of expensive costs of college (which get worse the more the govt funds/loans) and allowing the continued practice of no consequences for not living within your means.

I have a daughter with loans that this will basically take care of most of that...and I still don't support it.

And enough of whataboutism. Forgiving PPP and other statements of , "but they did it.".

We gotta stop this shit.

I also don't believe the president has the power to do this...

I do not think you were ranting and I think there are fair arguments against this forgiveness and I agree this does not really address the problem itself. In my opinion with the disparity of wealth in this country, and the many different ways the wealthy can get breaks, I am going to be for most anything that helps the working class.

I am also pretty much in favor of people living within their means but when certain important things such as healthcare and education have such high costs and can greatly jump year to year I certainly understand why its difficult for some people to do so. Especially with the largely stagnant salaries recently of the working class.

It's not about criticising the PPP recipients for receiving relief. It's about calling out the hypocrisy of A) Never batting an eye at handouts for corporations and B) Calling the very "socialism" they benefited from unfair. So many people took out the PPP loans with no intention of paying them back because it was clear they wouldn't have to, and now some of those same people are bitching about government "handouts"? Fuck them.

My hope is that with this now being in the public discourse, more attention will be paid to the predatory practices that created the situation and if some Universities try to do what we all expect them to do, that there will be consequences. This was never going to fix the problem. But if it's the first step toward doing it, I am happy about it.

I don't see how these were predatory. I think that is disingenuous just like saying "right to life." If you can't understand loans and debt, perhaps you aren't college material.

Federal student loans are not high interest rate loans. The federal government is not profiting off these loans and I doubt you will ever find another loan with such generous repayment, forbearance, deferment and default assistance options.

I fail to see how this fixes anything.

I truly hope I am 100% wrong.

Literally the first argument against giving people relief from loans they needed was "how is this fair to people who paid their loans off" while many of the people saying that didn't pay off loans they didn't need. If you can't see the difference between calling out the hypocrisy and "whataboutism" then I can't help you.
