I think many underestimate what Draymond does for this team. He doesn't put up the flashy numbers, but does all the little dirty things behind the scenes that lets them win. He really is a lot of the glue that holds the greats together.
Absolutely. He has never been a stat-line guy. But he is too inconsistent at this point to warrant a max (or near max) deal at this point. But he is also a coach on the court (similar to Iggy), which adds a lot of value.

He will be over-paid. But that doesn’t necessarily means he will be over-paid, if you get my meaning.

Iggy's gotta just stop wearing a uniform, put on a suit, and move down the bench to the coaches' area at this point.

That’s what he did this year, essentially. But if he wants it, that avenue is open to him. He could be a hell of a HC someday. But I seriously doubt that is where his road is headed. He wants his second career to be in Silicon Valley, and he already is all over that.

He's never getting a near max deal. He has 2 years left on this one. I would think after it's done maybe he signs for 2 more to end his career with Steph and those last 2 years won't be super expensive. Same thing with Klay.

His deal he's on now hasn't been an overpay at $25 mil per year for 4 years.

That deal really worked out for both sides. Dray wanted security, and I wonder how much other teams would've offered him since he probably wasn't a great fit for many teams. The team didn't want to pay too much, and they happily locked up one of their core players at that price.

Yup. The Warriors have proven that they will take care of their guys. Look at the max deal that Klay got, which was signed within weeks after he tore his ACL.

I think this is also partially a strategy. They are communicating to all the players out there that if you come here, they will take care of you.

Yeah in 2 years I would hope Klay and Dray take reasonable deals to play the last 2 years of Steph's contract (he's signed for 4 years more). Then I could see them all retire as a unit but who knows...

Not a common thing in today's NBA however. Too much money out there to pass up.

People keep acting like this Warriors team is typical. It's not. And this big 3 seem determined to stay intact.

If any team does the uncommon thing it will be this one

I wonder how much other teams would offer Klay and Dray when they are 34. Are we thinking max? With the exception of some very special players, it seems foolish for a team to throw big money at 34 year old players in free agency. Maybe the Warriors won't have too much to worry about. Also, Klay and Dray seem to have other business interests, too. Maybe they are satisfied with the money coming in from those sources.

Yup. And Klay and Dray's value on the Warriors will always be greater than what their value would be on another team.

This. And no way they get huge numbers at age 34. We're already saying they are on the decline. Not to mention Draymond simply has far less value on another team. I would think those last 2 years they'd each get $25-30 mil per or so (salaries will be higher in 2 years for everyone, max deals will be like $60 mil)

Yup. I'm thinking it's unlikely that there is a team out there thinking that their big splash in the 2024 offseason is to sign a 34 year old Dray or Klay to a max deal.

I think Klay’s value could translate to another team. Drey is ingrained into the Warriors system (he IS the Warriors system…) and wouldn’t have the same value anywhere (though I could see the Pistons going big for him for a couple years).

Yeah, you're right. Klay is one of the greatest 3 point shooters ever, which would make him welcome on any team. He doesn't create his own 3 point shot like Curry, but that's one of the reasons why Curry is an inner circle Hall of Famer and possibly a top 10 player of all time, and Klay doesn't need to be Curry to be valuable.

He would fit well with the old mold that the Pistons have. I don't see them paying the old guy at this point though (although it would be nice to see him back in Michigan). They got Livers and Garza in the second round last year and it will be far cheaper to see if one of them can pan out to be an emotional leader/glue guy during their rebuild. I just don't think that Dray could come and have that impact/connection with the young core like he has with the Warriors, it'd be like taking Curry and Klay away and having Dray bring up their young guys--it doesn't work without the trio.

With many guys all over the league hating Dray, it might be tough for that reason alone. LOL.

A "sea of humanity" is an apt description for this victory parade & celebration.
It's being televised on 8 local TV stations and streaming sites.
The players, all warriors personnel and fans are loving it.
I'm enjoying it from the comfort of my home.
Perfect 75º and blue sunlit skies.

Dubs championship celebration parade is going on right now.
Beautiful day here in the city. Thousands & thousands of fans and peeps cheering & partying all along Market St.

#DubNation

I was really hoping it would have rained out there today. :heh:

Congrats on the title again.

Is this one more satisfying than the first one given what G.S. has gone through the previous two seasons?

i agree with everything you said.

My point with Drey and the Pistons is more about the son coming home than anything else. If he were to have a dinner with the Pistons, I wouldn’t envision it as anything more than him “hanging out”. He is beyond his days of being a major playing anywhere except the Dubs.
