Antrel Rolle: Bring on 49ers

Vernon Davis said he prayed and prayed that the Giants would beat the Packers.

Now that his prayers have been answered, Antrel Rolle says the 49ers tight end should beware of what he wants.

Antrel Rolle talks a lot, but he has emerged as the Giants' voice of locker-room reason this season, ESPN.com's Dan Graziano writes. Blog

"If he said that, I can only hope that he was saying just because they wanted to get a home game," the Giants safety said on his weekly appearance on WFAN radio. "You know, they better be careful for what they ask for because their wish has been granted and we will see those boys come Sunday."

Davis, who caught the game-winning touchdown to stun the Saints on Saturday and send the Niners to the NFC Championship Game, said he was praying for a Giants victory on Sunday. Had the Packers won, the Niners would have traveled to face the top-seeded team in the conference title game instead of hosting the Giants.

"And I prayed, I prayed the Giants won," Davis told reporters on Monday. "I prayed. But they're a good team. I didn't pray because they were the worse team. I prayed because they're a good team, and I acknowledge that. The hardest game ever when they come up here. They have a good team offensively and defensively. This week we'll prepare like we did last week, and we'll approach this, I guess, (as if it's) the end of the world."

If Rolle and the Giants have their way, it will be the end of the 49ers' terrific season. The Giants have won four straight games and are coming off a 37-20 upset of the Packers.

Rolle said that the Giants' mentality right now is that "we're not going to be denied."

"I wouldn't take the field if I felt otherwise," Rolle said on Tuesday. "More than us gelling as a team, we are believing as a team. We understand where we are, we understand where we are trying to get to and what it takes for us to get there. We will do everything in our power. We won't be denied at this point. We are all in."

Rolle praised quarterback Alex Smith for leading the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game and said the 49ers are mentally tougher than he has ever seen them before.

"The No. 1 challenge is going to be the mental aspect," Rolle said. "They are a mentally tough team. They are extremely hungry. I used to play against those guys twice a year when I was in Arizona. This is a totally, totally different team. I mean the mindset, they are very hungry and very determined and they want to win just as bad as we do. I think it will come down to a defensive battle."

Several Giants said they wanted to return to San Francisco again after losing to the Niners 27-20 earlier this season.

Rolle, though, doesn't care who is standing in front him in the way of the Super Bowl.

"I don't give a damn who we are playing," Rolle said. "That is my take. I don't care who we play. I take any opponent. That is how I am and that is how I was raised. I don't shy away from any opponent. My heart doesn't pump any Kool-Aid, only blood."

I keep hearing how their defense wasn't healthy when they came out here. But we haven't heard crap about how Gore was hurt this game and only had a handful of carries. All the media said that week was how we couldn't win without Gore because Alex couldn't beat the giants by himself. But he did.

Let them talk. We do ours on the field. Just ask the 7 RBs that left games due to injuries while they played us...
