Actually, good teams bleed players all the time. They just are better at identifying the ones they want to keep before they are eligible to go to another team, while letting the others go.

THEY are in charge, not the players.

The Commanders aren't a good team yet. Sherff decided that Sherff wanted to play elsewhere. So did McKissick. Perhaps Settle did as well. If the culture was strong, and the team was a consistent winner, then perhaps Sherff / McKissic would have wanted to stay. It's not strong at all, and thus the players remained in charge.

On the other hand, they did identify some players they want to keep - Allen, and Leno being two that immediately come to mind.

Not sure what they're doing currently - there's been no news about a Terry Mac contract extension. That's VERY concerning.

CB DJ Reed signs with the Jets. 3yr, 33M.

He's already familiar with Saleh's defense, since he played in SF under him for his first 2 seasons. Nice to see him do so well. Niners 5th rd pick, we cut after 2 seasons (tried him at S, slot, outside, etc., but couldn't find a place for him). Seattle picks him up off the street and he does well there for 2 years.

Further proof that sometimes even good teams like the niners cant develop a player that another team can.

It happens with every team, not just the Commanders.

No I don't trust Ron Rivera and Co. at all, to answer your question.

What do you mean when you infer that "this is a bad sign?" Where have to been to use that when it's no longer a sign, but an ongoing condition?
Let me ask you this, if you were an NFL owner would you use Washington as your business model?
In context of if team offers a player 5 mill a year and wsh offers the player 8 mill a year more likely the player would take the 5 mill

True. It happens to every team. We tried Reed at several positions and just couldn't fit him into one where he was successful. Seattle figured out exactly which spot he was best in and left him there. So, I guess you could say, the Niners failed to develop him, Seattle succeeded in developing him, but still had to let him walk anyway.

Hell, the Niners have some infamous instances of a player that we couldn't develop, but another team could. Two, old, but very BIG examples off the top of my head are NT Ted Washington and TE Wesley Walls--neither could really cut it in SF, but they were PB-players elsewhere.

The bottom line is that "we can't let Player X leave b/c he'll go somewhere else and be great" is a STUPID argument for keeping a player b/c he's either good on your team/scheme or he isn't. If he isn't, keeping him does you no good.

This is a bad sign .. scheiff is making less this means he did not want to be here... do you guys trust are Drafting ? Because that's the only way we going to get better

I thought he was making the same at 16M per year. Highest paid OG in the league AAV. Good luck getting 17 games out of him. BS was in it for the money. He has no chance at winning in Jax. Better chance of winning here. But of course, its about the money. He knew FA was going to be crazy this year and he took advantage. The stupid move was tagging him last year. Never would of gotten this kind of money if you let him hit FA last year.

JD's deal is worth two years and $7 million, with a possible additional $1 million in incentives. That's a nice chunk of money for part of a RB-by-committee.

He wanted to go to a contender. I didn't think he would get Chance Edmound's type money. People were saying he was going to get 6m per year which was crazy. Its a tough loss but even if we matched it he would of gone to Buffalo where he can win now.

Since he's gonna be the 3rd down, receiving, back, it also makes sense for him to go to Buffalo since their offense is VERY pass heavy.

True. Its a big loss, but I think we will be ok in getting a guy who does the same role.

Settle signed in Buffalo (not Jacksonville). For a backup DT, that's a nice raise and the contract is short enough that if he succeeds, he'll be able to quickly get a good starter's-money contract.
Yes I know, I shouldn't have quoted your post. It was meant for another post where it was mentioned that Jacksonville was over paying left and right. Operator error.
