Then maybe you can tell me why his 182 lb weight alone would cause Sammy Baugh to fail at QB today. The other guy doesn't seem inclined to explain and I got tired of him moving the goalposts every time I asked.

Keep in mind that he was 6'2" and this wasn't just any 182 lb man. He was 182 lbs of barbed wire and the best athlete in the game by far, at the time, who was a star on defense as well and still holds the record for average yards per punt in a season.

Explain why him weighing 182 lbs causes him to fail at QB today.
First off I could be wrong n Sammy B was a cold mothafucker for real. That said, @ 182 I simply don't believe he or anyone else could physically hold up @ QB. Be it barbed wire, granite, or rock of Gibraltar. Now if he puts on 20, 25 lbs. He might be working with something. But @ 182 his only NFL gig is as a punter n maybe a nickel back on passing downs.

It's totally stupid to compare different eras.

Cap vs No Cap
Free Agency vs Stuck on one team for life
No touching of WR vs Beating the shit out of them at the line of scrimmage
Hands off QBs vs Hits from the ankles to the forehead

Most of you were not around to watch football in the 1950s. Players had regular jobs and went to practice from 6 pm to 10 pm every night. Prior to the 1950s they had to have jobs that allowed them to take a train to games on Friday and be late for work on Monday. Of course making that extra $5000 a year plus the bonus if you won a championship made things a bit easier. It was the age of smelling salts and taking 10-20 aspirin to let you play with a broken arm in the second half.

I never talk baseball because it doesn't interest me. Same with tennis and hockey. If this topic isn't for you ignore it.

Ok. At least you didn't change the subject. I appreciate that. But you really haven't provided any reasoning for why him weighing 182 would be issue for him at QB.

It's basically 2-hand touch when it comes to hitting QBs these days, so I am genuinely trying to understand the thinking behind the theory that his weight would be a determining factor.

heh, No idea whatsoever.

This thread seems like an apt place for this. Agree or Disagree?

This would be the actual NFL Fastest Man, this is based on what these guys did on the track

1.Bob Hayes 9.1/10.06 both world records
2.Sam Graddy Olympic 100m silver medalist/10.09
3.Ron Brown Olympic 100m 4th place/10.06
4.Trindon Holliday 10.00.........when talking times this close, accomplishments trump
5.Jacoby Ford 10.01
6,Alvis Whitted 10.07
8.Darrell Green 10.08
9,Johnny Jones 10.2ish but....Olympic 6th place
10.Cliff Branch 9.2 100 yards
11.Curtis Dickey 10.10
12.Willie Gault 10.11
13.James Trapp 10.14
14.James Jett 10.16
15.Tyreek Hill 10.19

Bo Jackson never broke 10.30, Deion Sanders a 10.26 guy, Randy Moss had one indoor season at Marshall,

I won;t use Jimmy Hines 9.95, Frank Budd 9.2 because they did nothing in the sport, and Jeff Demps 10.01 didn'r either.

The fastest white dude was John Roderick a 9.3 out of SMU

I asked the question .....could a 180 pound QB play today.....on a few other sites I visit, the conensus.......no way in a hell a guy that size can last......which is how it really is and it is foollish to think one could.

And all this silliness about QB's not taking a beating today is 100% wrong.

No 180 pounder is surviving that

Strange place here a lot of........what is wrong with you didn't I tell you how it is.......ha!!!!!

Any place where....can a 180 pound QB play in todays NFL....is a legit conversation, hahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty much the norm ....

Not for long is how I see it. At 180 and being typical QB height at around 6' 3" or so, he's a stringbean that the defensive linemen would feast on, for about 3-4 good hits then it's likely all over. Those guys are averaging 6'5" and close to 300 lbs. each with quickness to boot, so it wouldn't take many hits to sideline a QB that small.

I've been following football since the late 50's and can't think of any top QB that was that light, and players were generally a good bit smaller back then.

ETA: There were some under 200 lbs. like Tarkenton, Starr and Unitas, but they were in the 190 + range, but defensive players back then were probably 50-60 lbs. lighter rushing the QB

Going to move on when I see people getting all excited to the point we are seeing here over.....sports.....not cool!

I confess a lot of this is due to the fact I can't make threads, so kinda stuck on this stuff.

My last say on this.....

Back in the days of Sammy Baugh they played 11/12 game seasons on grass fields the players much smaller, slower, weaker and ...white. In that world a 182 pound QB could play actually rule and Baugh did, he was amazing. BUT......that world was long long ago, things are totally different today, everything is different. In with 300 pounders, 4,3 sprinters, guys who can bench 500 pounds, 16 to 20 game seasons, hard ass artifical turf, a totally different situation now than back in the days of Slingin' Sammy. YES.....if he had been born in 2000 he;d be far bigger than 182, everything about him an improvement so he would be an NFLer, but as he was back then, way too small he wouldn't last three games.

Done~~~~~

Adios!

Since I can't make threads will use this one to talk some football.

So just where do we put Dak, how about....

Mahomes/Rodgers/Wilson/Brady

Ryan
Watson
Allen
Stafford
Carr

.....right around here with Dak

Big Ben has seen better days. Jackson just a outerworldly runner at QB,

I agree with you about the 2 hand touch and yet..........Burrow, Dak, the Skins Kyle Allen and Jimmy G all suffered season ending injuries last year. Andy Dalton got knocked out on a late hit and Drew Brees, Minshew and Matt Stafford also missed time due to being hurt. So yeah, while its 2 hand touch, its some of the biggest, strongest and pretty damn fast dudes in the country who are doing the two hand touching.

For a 182 pound QB to play year in, year out. He'd have to be in the 5'8", 5'6" range and built like a brick shithouse. Unfortunately though, he'd then be too short.

This may interest some. I stopped reading when it had Joe Namath listed @ 30 and gave him all the credit for the Jets Super Bowl win. Spoiler alert - Brady's listed @ #2.

I couldn't get past Joe Namath. I dunno if its the same outfit, but another article I saw today listed the 25 greatest NFL teams. They had the Rams team that was spanked by the Pats in the SB. The Titans who lost to the Rams in the SB. The Bears who were ass paddled by the Skins in round 1 of the playoffs in 86 I believe. The Dolphins who were curbed out by the 9ers in the SB, and one of Marty's Chargers teams that choked in the playoffs as some of the NFL's greatest teams.
