not this year for sure . he wouldnt get 18 mil but next year ... who knows . he is under no obligation to let us match any offer . we dont have a replacement , and perhaps they want a yr to sort it out . pretty simple . and it doesnt hurt us at all because we are way below paying market value at LT

but we still win if we sign him in a long term deal in Fa this year. Yes he could pick and choose where he wants to go. If we did match his best offer I think he would of came back. We could of taken advantage of teams who are in cap hell right now. He should be running to the table to sign his tag. That was a huge gift from RR. Fa and the draft are loaded with OG's.

It was simply an olive branch to say, "hey, we need ya, come on back on a LTD".

No b/c if a team like the Jets offers him 15m per season and we match it, you dont think he signs here rather than going to the Jets? We have no leverage now.

I get it and at this point, (since he said he wants to be here) why wouldn't he sign here for $18m. I get your point dean, the RFA tag would have given us more leverage but Ron chose to tag him again but with an understanding they would likely continue working on a LTD. Now if Schreff decides to hit FA again next year well then, you know who he had been talking too.

Why in the hell would Scherff sign a long term deal with us now? When he becomes a FA next year he could make alot more. If we didnt tag him we could of gotten him at a discounted price. Scherff has all the leverage now in this bad move. Im still shocked we tagged him.

Making this mistake twice would have been detrimental but, this is a new regime so...It's a business and in this business, timing is everything. They missed the window with Scherff last year unfortunately. I have this gut feeling Scherff wants to stick around. Look at it this way (credit dad), $18m for the best guard in football for 1 year only. Remember, I said best guard in NFL. Not a bad deal for a 1 year commitment. We'll see next year if he wants to be a member of the WFT moving forward. If he leaves for greener pastures, oh well.

I have been told 1000x by people “ we don’t have the money “ to resign our own period , let’s give up this guy to get this guy because we can’t resign him . I just blew that out of the water because no way we avg 20 mil per resigns . Add to it every team will get a windfall with the cap going up so wage scales will also change in accordance .
When they used to be the Redskins. Someone was a freakin wizard at manipulating the cap for them. Maybe that wouldn't be so necessary though. If the Skins didn't sign everyone to the biggest freakin contracts in NFL history at that point in time. This also sends a sign to every other NFL player that you get paid in DC and we've seen how that mindset can be a detriment not an asset to a team.

And if you n others keep pumpkin up the DL like it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. What makes you think that at least 5 of the present players on the DL right now. Won't be looking for 18 to 20+ mill per a year? Both DE n DT are positions more highly valued than OG.

The 5 of which I speak are Chase, Montez, Payne, Allen n Matt I be ballin.

But we can afford all of them...some fail to see if the cap goes up...so do the salaries. So 20 million will be 30 million, and don’t be surprised if Chase is 40.

i see no issue with 140 mil in cap space for 22 and the cap will go up each yr through 24 allowing us to retain chase and sweat , i do belive that i said all 5 would avg out to 20 mil so lets increase it to 25 mil and we still have the money to do it

Of course he signs the tag. Sure BS could leave but but we could of gotten him cheaper on a long term deal. Now its too late and we will probably lose him next year.

That would be Quenton Nelson of the Colts.

Its all debatable
I'd agree, but as you mentioned skinsdad we'll use his barometer which seems to be pro bowl and now all pro nods. And as Nelson has been named to 3 pro bowls and been named all pro 3 times in his 3 NFL seasons. He's batting .1000 per the skinsdad barometer and given his age. Its hard to put him anywhere, but at #1.

Here Nelson is listed as 5th and BS doesn't make the cut at all. Who Is the Best Offensive Guard in the NFL in 2020? But he also has a center named as the 4th best OG in football and 2 Philly players on the list. Which when considering the injuries and problems Philly suffered last year on the OL might cause me to say, "The dude who made this list is a clown."

On this list BS makes the cut I believe @ # 8 The NFL's 11 best guards and Nelson at #2 I believe and at least every player named is an OG. Of note. This list is a tad old as Marshall Yanda is listed, but he's now retired.

IMO the 2nd list is probably most accurate. BS is not the best OG in football or in the top 3. He's certainly very good and deserves mention on a listing of top 10 guards in football, maybe even the tail end of top 5.

And my criteria might be different than all of the above writers of the listings. I also have to acknowledge I have a bias being a Skins fan and that can cut both ways. That said the reasons I believe BS is in the 5 to 7 or 8 range, but no higher are. 1) the Skins have never fielded enough of a consistent running game and in particular with the exception of when All Day was a RB for a couple seasons. Never had a consistent or good short yardage/goal to go game. 2) Too much pressure has been put on Skins QBs up the middle over the years BS has been a Skins player. 3) And this is probably where the negative bias has the most affect on me. I can recall plays where BS has been absolutely owned. I also recall plays where he's absolutely owned an opposing player as well, The plays where he's been owned seem to occur most in the pass game and the short yardage game. And the plays where he's owned an opposing player seem to occur most in a down hill running game fashion.

Now before anyone breaks out a play or plays where BS has been impressive in both pass blocking and the short yardage game. I'm not saying he's always shitty in those areas. He certainly isn't. He just hasn't been consistent enough for me to think he's a top 3 OG. Therefore I don't see it as great business to pay him more money than every other OG in football. Even if in a couple or 3 years his deal may look like a bargain. If the Skins were more set overall as a team and only needed a couple additions that'd be one thing. But as of right now imo we need at least 1 MLB/inside LB and maybe another OLB with at least one of these players having adequate coverage abilities that presently I don't see in any of the LBs on the team. A free safety who can adequately man cover and tackles well. Another solid CB as Darby to my knowledge is a FA at this time.

A #2 WR. I like Cam and Steven Sims well enough, but neither, at least not at this time and for various reasons, have shown me enough to be confident they can fill that role. Truth be told. I wouldn't mind seeing how Antonio Gibson would do in that position. The kid has pass catching skills from his college tape, but they seemed wasted @ RB, in part because of his inexperience with blitz pick ups. As a WR he wouldn't have to concern himself with that and he could stay on the field for every down as opposed to being taken out on 3rd down for McKissic. AG could also still be used as a runner on occasion like how the Rams employ their WRs at times on jet sweeps and the like. I'd just like to see the ball in his hands more and in more one n one situations with more open field where's he's at or near top speed as as he has the ball. With his size/strength I think he could shuck off a lotta would-be tackles from DBs. Possibly a #3 WR as I'm not confident that the Sims boys can fill that role either, but maybe so and I do like Steven's speed and Cam's can do attitude. A RB who can himself hold up for 250 to 275 carries in a season/15 to 17.5 carries a game, week in, week out. I don't think there's that type of runner on the team right now. And lastly, a QB. I don't have much faith in Kyle Allen though I'd love to be wrong and I just don't see Hienicke holding up for a full 16 game season.

Just as KC signed for the most money by a qb and he wasn’t the best the same will happen to BS . His contract as time goes on will fall in line with his so called rating .

I would question some of those guys being better then BS , they could be his equal but better ? Overall ? Eh

Nelson I can see and he will get paid and in fact you could make the case he is a top ten o/ lineman

Yeah, its definitely debatable and Nelson has become a media darling. I'm sure that factors into his lofty ratings in some way.

And as a John Q Citizen type. One thing I'll say concerning BS. Props to him for getting his money. I ain't mad at him. Especially when you consider how a team can do a player as in the NFL teams, not players, have long held a serious advantage in contract negotiations. Its just been fairly recently starting with Darrelle Revis really from what I can recall. That players started making the franchise tag seriously work for them. The biggest thing was staying healthy and Kirk had that trait, ability, blessing, whatever one wants to call it in spades. And here comes Dak and puts the smash on even that being a necessity.
