The CBA doesn’t dictate market value. Team needs, available cash, and do. Scherff is a guard...he was the highest paid guard in the league last season. At 18 million, he will be the highest paid this season by three million, 20% more costly than the next guard.
So what ? We are paying him 18 mil for one year. BFD

In reports they wanted more than one player on defense. Brandon Schreff, D. Payne, a (presumed) healthy Kyle Allen and those picks is something that I could get behind.
I was just joking BUT, I'd do that in a heartbeat for Watson. For those that like Will Fuller, you'd probably land him too

Yes but you want him for more than a year. By tagging him, that is the floor of what he accepts. So, like I said, you want to give him 20% more than every guard in football.

I agree with Dad, personally it's 4mil more than I'd like to see a guard make, but for now its just one year. If he isn't all pro again, or misses substantial time due to injury, you can draft or replace him in FA

Ouch! I forgot that would be the logical expectation. 18per over 4 or 5yrs. No thanks, unless we're in the superbowl

We have 140 mil in cap space for 22. Every team will get some kind of windfall from the TV deals .
So perhaps your wage scale will change and what you will see is a lot of short term deals .

And we aren’t getting just an OG , we are getting a HOF trending OG

I think its too much. Lets see what happens.

Thats WR production pay (68 rec, 1,000, 10 td's) from the likes of Golloday

I agree. Since we have nothing besides Tmac at WR right now giving a OG 18M doesn't make sense to me.

If we lose out on Galloway and Samuel b/c of this I would be pissed.

One year at $18 million isn't going to hurt the team. It is a shame that they couldn't work out a deal. This is becoming the norm with players the WTF would like to keep. Cousin's, Trent and how Scherff.

dad has been talking about not having the QB to attract players. He is not wrong. Who are you going to sell Allen or Heinicke to?

Then add all the crap that Snyder and the organization has going on, that only adds to reasons guys might now want to come here unless you pay way over value for them.

Cant depend on rookies for our #2 WR. Plus Harmon and AGG are wildcards. You add a FA WR and a draft pick plus harmon and Agg now that is a good core of 5Wr's.

why ? we have a roster full of vet wrs , why not simply draft 2 ? hell tmac came in as a 3rd round pick and became a number one year one

Yeah who needs a HOF trending OG when you can trot out Kieth Ismael , 0 snaps , Charles 2 snaps , or the legendary Wes Martin ? Because with 140 mil in cap space next year we will have to sell off half the team
Says you which can be easily dismissed as you being a homer. Pro football reference has something they call the PFR Hall Of Fame monitor that scores players on several criteria, both past/retired n present players are scored. There are at present 16 OGs in the hall of fame. The lowest rated OG that's in the hall, Tom Mack, is presently ranked 21st on the PFR monitor for OGs. There are 5 other OGs, 4 of whom are very recently retired n former Dolphin great, Bob Kunchenberg in the top 20 who are not in the hall at present.

Mack's PFR monitor score is 71.85, the lowest rated score for an OG in the hall. Skins great n HOFer, Russ Grimm is 14th on the list with a score of 83.65, word up for Russ. Brandon Scherff at present is ranked 138th on the list with a PFR monitor score of 25.48. The average score for an OG in the hall is 110.41. Scherff might be trending towards the HOVG, hall of very good, but he's got a ways to go before he gets in any hall of fame conversations from another person other than you I would imagine.

how does Scherff get 18m per season on the open market this year? He doesnt. That's why it was bad to tag him. How did this move make sense? we could of gotten him for less in FA on a long term deal.
