Do the ORIOLES owe Dumpster Dan Duquette an apology???
For 3 years now, Orioles Nation has raged on Duquette....and derided him as Dumpster Dan for picking castoff nobodies.
Renato Nunez .306/.383/.597 $564k signed until 2024
Hanser Alberto .345/.370/.540 $1.65 signed until 2023
Pedro Severino .304/.371/.571 $564k signed until 2024
Rio Ruiz .259/.331/.611 $585k signed until 2025
All 4 guys were picked off the scrap heap after being outright waiver cuts by other teams.
It is still early, and they will likely regress.....but WOW.
Yeah obviously small sample sizes and based off what they have proven to this point a lot of regression should be expected. But, they all are in that 26/27 prime age range. And Nunez/Alberto especially have showed things over the course of a full season last year that they are not a complete fluke.
Alberto seems like a legit .300 hitter. He puts bat to ball. In this short season he appears to be hitting doubles at a really high rate. If his bat to ball skills can keep tranlating to doubles, his overall slash line will stay closer to what it is now.
Nunez had the 30 homer power last year but do to his middling average and not a lot else his slugging% wasnt much special. But he has shown he can hit the long ball. So if over the course of a full season he can be more of a .275ish hitter rather than .250. That will add a lot of value.
