I am going to call this a half assed article with some truths and plenty of wrong opinions.

First this defense became a 3-4 defense under Shanahan. So calling out Manusky only is BS.

What this defense has had a problem with and this has gone on for years is communication and execution. For years we have had lineman, LBs and DBs filling the wrong hole, not maintaining gap integrity. Leave a gap unattended you leave a HOLE …. that is the thing guys run through.

How many years have we watched DBs turn and looked at each other confused. They didn't know the coverage, they didn't understand their responsibility etc. etc.

I think some of it is on the players but the defensive coaching has been horrendous. BTW all DLineman in a 3-4 are not 360 lbs. See Aaron Donald. Also note that the team was in 4-3 more often than 3-4. For some reason most people never understood that.
